I was talking with some guys at the range concerning a USC to UMP conversion and one of them said that they could get a "factory" UMP registered as a SBR (semi auto). Is this possible or is there some sort of loophole I'm unaware of? Any info would be appreciated, I hate being wrong.

No, as far as ATF is concerned. All UMP's a MG's.

Factory German UMP semi-auto S,F (SBR)

No you cannot... Verbotten in this country... No legal factory German semi-auto UMP is allowed for civilian ownership...

The only way you can come 95 % close to this version of the UMP sub-machine gun is to buy a USC civilian rifle and convert the gun by sending it away for the conversion upgrade...

A form 1 will need to be done... Transfer the gun back to your C-3 SOT dealer in your state back from the conversion dealer... You will prefer someone locally... $ 200 tax stamp paid to BATFE... Send the paperwork away and wait for your stamp to come back...

Do a search for this item...

Matter of fact there is one for sale here on the HK Firearms for sale board...
Contact your local C-3 / SOT dealer for transfer requirements at your end...

Look here... American built Tactical Excellence USC to UMP conversion...
