USC to UMP conversion questions

I am trying to re-learn on this topic and needs some insight. I am looking at my possible next HK pick up as I save my pennies. Any guidance would be appreciated!

To convert the USC to a UMP (not SBR)...what do you need to do?

I know you need a UMP lower and stock but I am not sure about the gunsmithing that needs to occur etc.

On the barrel, how hard is it to change out if I did go the SRB route at some point? Is the barrel pin as tough as a G3/91/93, etc or is a more simple process like an AR?

Any other guidance points, recommended gunsmiths or cost estimate for the conversion would be great.

THX!

You need to buy a UMP lower and stock block. You also need to buy the 922r compliant parts. There will need to be some light milling work that needs to be done on the USC upper to accept the UMP mags. The barrels are fairly easy to remove. If you are handy with a hammer and punch this can be done in a few minutes. There are video's of this on you tube. A good place to find parts to do the conversion is HK Parts.net.
The barrel switch is simple and if you get one, the UMP conversion is pretty much the only reason to get a USC. Alot of these are now starting to become available because folks cannot get mags anymore and almost everyone who buys a USC plan on a conversion and without the mags what's the point. I'm sure HK also does not want us civi's being able to obtain something that is almost exactly something we are not supposed to have.
A guy here recently was looking into domestically making some mags and that would be great for those of us that have these.
Thx gents....thx for the 411 on the mags...did not know.

It appears to be an expensive build for sure....but is HK right? :0

Found a website/co that does the conversions, etc....so it appears to be a $3k total build. May have to complete my MP5 pistol build sitting on the bench first.
It's not only HK, it's a close copy of something that is completely not available and has never been, to civilians.
This, to me, sets it apart from the 9 series. But yes, it's expensive!

The easiest and quickest conversion is the complete lowers with 2 magazines Ed Montana (HDPS) sells on GB. They run around $1695.00 but it fits right on your USC upper, 10 seconds and your done and ready to shoot. They used to be $200 cheaper a couple months ago. It is going to run around 3K if you want one of these. (USC/UMP conversion)
This is an example of what the opening will look like when you mill the upper of the USC to take UMP mags. You can use a milling machine or several files or a drill press with X-Y slide or a Dremel and a very steady hand. I did my first UMP conversion with a chainsaw file, razor knife and Dremel. This is my second now that I have a bit more tools in the shed. You can find the dimensions posted on the web.

I'll show the finished product when I get the the 0-1 lower, compliance parts from Adam and do the dye job. Take the plunge, it is an easy conversion.

Cheers!

Its not a bad build at all and the mag prices will come down again .
Ed at HDPS will do the complete conversion right now for $1595 including labor. You just need to send him your USC as he'll need to mill the upper and then take your stock USC trigger group and install it into the UMP lower.

HOMELAND DEFENSE AND POLICE SUPPLY CORP.
I found the hardest part was swapping the fire controls from the usc lower into the ump lower. Be sure to take pics as you disassemble to help in reassembly.
