Hey-

I just ordered and received an "extended" top and a side rail for my USC. Both are supposedly HK OEM parts. The finish on the side rail is a deep, rich "satin" black like the finish on my MR556A1 and like I'd expect it to be on an HK. The top rail is this faded, greyish, "black" that looks cheap. Further, the undersides of both rails look like they would "bottom" out against my USC, not what I've heard about true HK rails that only touch the USC at the screw point, thus leaving a small gap between the USC and the rail. Also, the German's are pretty proud people, and neither rail is marked "HK".

I wouldn't be this anally rententive except for the fact that I paid a pretty penny for these two strips of metal, because I wanted HK OEM parts, THAT, and I've had issues with this supplier switching parts on me before.

Would someone that KNOWS mind taking a look at these and tell me;

* If the finish should match on both rails using HK OEM rails

* If there should be gaps on these rails or did HK supercede their design

If these are swapped parts, I'm gonna make some serious phone calls, because, like I said, i've caught this supplier before, but I took the previous experience as a mistake. Again, these were advertised and sold as "HK Factory German USC/UMP Side Or Bottom Rail" and "HK UMP, USC Extended Top Rail, Brand: Heckler & Koch, Origin: German"

Thanks-

B.

Picture sucks, but notice the faded greyish black of the longer top rail::

Notice how both these rails bottom out without gap ala "HDPS" rails:

I actually like Ed's rails better. They're thicker, which is why the don't have the gap. And I do have some factory HK rails that I ordered directly from HK, they are not marked with HK or any other numbers. The color difference is because anodizing varies from batch to batch. They may have even been made by a subcontractor or two that may be using more than one platers. But it doesn't affect fit, form, or function, so they likely still meet their mfg specs. I think yours will still have the gap, as the ones from HDPS have fairly deep pockets that fit over the screw bosses, deeper than the recesses on the ones you have.

That grayer color is usually what I get when I order parts in "hard black" anodizing. The standard black is usually the darker color. There are also more than one type of hard black anodizing.

I searched and there is another post from 2009 like this with the same concerns. I appreciate the opinions on the HDPS rails, but I wanted to stay with OEM as my preference. I understand that finishes would change, but I expected these two to match. I think I have a 90% match to the small rail on the HK Europe site, but the top rail I'm leery about.

I sent the vendor an email after I posted this and I was sent a PM by the vendor, so we are going to discuss this.

Thanks-

B.
