I own both in LEM now and I'm not sure but I think the 9mm has more recoil. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this?

Just taught a female to shoot my USP Compact 9mm. At 105 pounds and 4'11" she never complained ... just saying

You may be referring to the diference in muzzle flip and/or perceived recoil.

9mm is weaker but I find it "snappier", whereas 45 auto is a more powerful round but the perceived recoil is more like a push back/thump to the wrist rather than the snappy upwards energy of the 9mm.

It seems the flip that I am talking about is almost in slow motion compared to the 45.

I think that you found a possible cause. Compare the 2 using a standard pressure with 124gr. in the 9mm and the same brand of 230gr.45 and then compare.
