Hey HK people. I thought I would show you a comparison of the GG&G USP rail adapter vs the Surefire MR09 rail adapter for the H&K USP when using an X300 Surefire light.

For a long while, I just accepted that the GG&G rail was the only affordable and decent option. I used it on my USP for 6 months and just found that my hands were not big enough to really reach the switch in front of the trigger guard. I could activate it, but it was not easy to get to.

I found (and severely overpaid for) a new surefire MR09 adapter on ebay last week, and it is a much nicer mount than the GG&G, plus it moves the x300 backward enough that I can easily get to the switch with my medium sized hands.

Here is a picture comparison for those curious.

You can see that the MR09 tucks the light closer to the trigger guard making light activation much easier for my hand size.

I'm currently bugging Surefire to sell the CAD drawing of the adapter to me for a reproduction run of them. They have not been responsive. Should they chose not to sell me the product, I'll reverse engineer it, change it by 10% and knock it off for the community. The gray market has driven pricing into the stratosphere, and I'd like to make this an affordable option again.

Thoughts?

Do you have any recourse on this? Could this assembly person’s employee be on the hook for the associated costs?
The recourse is that they lost my business permanently, and I didn’t accept nor pay for the parts they made. So they lost more that I did on the deal.

I think I’m going to shelve this idea for the foreseeable future; cost to manufacture appears to be more than the MR09 is, and doesn’t offer a significant advantage.

Been working on a different idea and I want to see if I should continue.

My idea is to make a new bolt-on interface that takes a Surefire X300-A model, and creates a direct mount USP integrated mount. The 2 main problems I already discovered was battery changes need to be made when the bracket is removed, and the direct mount doesn't really position the light any better than the MR09 does.

Here are pics:

So what do we think? Worth refining? Or scrap it and stick with the MR09? The issue with the USP is the trigger guard sweeps forward as it heads toward the muzzle. The higher up to the frame you put it, the further it gets from your finger. It needs to sit low and deep, which isn't really possible.

I’ve been getting lots of PMs about blems so let me just make it public:

the parts have been coated in anodizing that was too thick. This is usually not a problem but the assembly person decided to ram the socket head cap machine screws into aluminum with a power tools. The threads of the aluminum are all tore up as are the screws.
So I started running dies down the screws to clean the burrs off, and running taps down each threaded pocket to salvage the parts.
Well the parts came apart like ****. Some bolts broke. Some were broken by the assembly person and bagged and shipped anyway.
Basically I was able to fix 37 of them. I lost 7 to bolt snaps or tap snaps, and I did not bother removing the bolts from the remaining 56.
I just boxed them all up and sent them back.
the other issue that was present with the super thick anodizing was the rail and adapter fit was now a press fit. They would fit, but it was a bit too tight for my liking.
basically if you have a fine thread it should feel smooth like butter. These felt like sheet metal screws coming out of wood.
Not acceptable to me and I don’t want you guys getting parts that won’t be perfect. They cost too much to be anything but flawless.
the machined part is great, the sublet anodizing and assembly was sub.

This is a very difficult post for me to make, but I feel transparency is better than silence.

These MR08 brackets are not to my quality standards.

I'm devastated to tell you that these will not be offered for sale, and I'm discontinuing the MR09/MR08 for the time being until I can find a better anodizing refinisher here in the states. That will take months from quoting to vetting to sample parts, and then full blown production orders. I am so very sorry that these did not pan out like I had hoped. My investment loss on this is pretty big, so I'll work on sending quotes to new shops this week so we can get you these reproductions.

It's days like today that make me want to close up shop and just go back to being a HK enthusiast. Pretty bummed for us all on this one. I'll update once I have new lead times.

Hey all-

MR08 USP compact X300 flashlight adapters arrived this morning. Gotta QC them all and get some more shipping envelopes, and I’ll put them up for sale.

Product page is live, but inventory will not be added until Friday, January 24th at 9am pacific standard time.
Restock of MR09 is already delayed from March to April.
As always, I appreciate each one of you and your support in these fun little boutique HK items.

Wanted to give an update on the MR08 compact adapters; they were started later than I was told, and they just got done at the shop. Headed to anodizing now. It is likely they will be ready a day or two before Xmas. I’ll update this thread, and send an email out to all on the list.

This is a great mount. Sits closer to the frame and places the light closer to the trigger guard than a GGG mount.

There is ~1 mm fore-and-aft play on my .45s, but it locks up tighter than Sister Marie-Therese’s thighs on the 9mms.
You can try to remove a few thousandths from the mating surface where the 2 parts meet and the screws pass through and thread.

Use a piece of glass out of a picture frame to ensure flatness, lay down sand paper and lightly pass one side of one of the parts against the grit, then test fit. Repeat on the other side part. Single pass, light friction and reinstall/feel it out. Doesn’t take much.

How do we order, or get on the list, or however you are handling orders? Thanks in advance!

The MR09 is isn’t a universal mount; it’s only designed for the X300B and USP. The demand for that combo is very high so I remade it to make the mount available to more users.

Im still out on re-designing the mount to be more universal fitment; the market is already small for this as is.

So my only goal this far was to get the MR09/08 back into the marketplace for new adopters of the USP.

Surefire doesn’t make those models. Stream light does.

This is designed solely for Surefire X300 B thumb screw models. All other lights are at your own risk of requiring modifications to the light, adapter, gun, or all 3.

Since I understand the fix for the adapter fitting loose on some frames is to sand off a few thousandths of an inch at the mating surface, that is now disclosed and is up to the end user to fit it via gunsmith or at home by hand sanding.

I am as up front and honest as I can be about what this fits and how it varies. Buy with knowledge and understanding of its limitations though. It won’t magically bolt on to everything.

I love how they went for less than it cost to make them. Cool photos guys.

I got this late last night from the engineering team:

Then earlier this evening they had these 3d printed samples and test fit them.

I'll have CAD models and prints in a few days and then I'll fire those off to my machine shop and see if we can't get both the MR09 and MR08 done at the same time. Exciting!

MR08 arrived on Friday, and I got it to the engineering team this afternoon. The 2 are just slightly different in multiple areas, so I'm going to have them do the full part to make sure we get it right. Fun part is in a pinch an MR08 will work on a full size frame.

Massive thanks to @gavar for giving up an in-use MR08 for the betterment of the HK community.

Once it arrives I’ll send it off to get the CAD data and get these going ASAFP. Shouldn’t take too long as the models are not too far off. Don’t need to re-create from scratch.

Is the new batch addressing any of the fit issues, like with the 45's and the slot location?
Not this one, no. Still have a large demand for the current version, and working with a company now to do additional revisions.
