I tried some action pistol for the first time at my local club with my Expert 40 last weekend - super fun. Now, I'm thinking a 9MM would perform better over the long haul if I'm gonna do this more. P30L probably a good bet. Then, I was out shopping and came across a used USP Tactical 9MM. It has a very similar feel to the Expert, controls in the same place, nice trigger, long barrel, same sights. So guys, tell me what you think I oughtta do. Getting them both is not an acceptable answer!

Im kinda wondering a similar thing. I was thinking of just shooting some local matches for fun. Only .40sw I own is full size USP .40sw. I was thinking of shooting .40sw and up, since they score this area by power factor, so 9mm would not score me as high, no matter how well I shoot against other shooters using .40sw or higher. I met a member from this forum who is using a Tanfoglio 10mm Match, and shooting .40sw out of it to make Major. I just dont like how the Recoil Reduction System recoils in the full size USP for shooting in a match. Sure its nice, but hampers follow up shots in action type shooting. Just for that reason I would use a P30L in .40sw for a Heckler und Koch pistol. Youre going to get a ton of various opinions on this Im sure!

Getting them both is ALWAYS an exceptable answer, around here.
I'm not familiar with "action pistol" so let me just say that if metal targets might be involved, some people have experienced 9mm needing multiple strikes to push them over, where .40 and .45 do it with a single hit.
There are a lot of factors that play into it, to include shot placement (leverage to push the plate over) and ranges, but I'm just passing on the experiences of others.

P.S. As far as the tactical, all of the trigger and controls do match your current gun. However, while the sights appear the same, there is a difference - sight radius. although the tactical barrel is longer than a standard USP, the sight radius is the same which is shorter than what you currently enjoy (and may affect you in competition).

It was not a match trigger, but the SA felt pretty good, probably something like 4lbs. I'm glad to hear endorsements for the P30L. That's the way I am leaning. Sounds like the recoil reduction in that model works better and then you have the grip that you can modify. I didn't know about extra points for shooting higher calibers. What league of competition is that? I am thinking about trying IDPA. Thanks for chiming in Kost.

Bordercop - mainly you shoot at paper targets that are the size and form of human upper torso. There are alot of variations out there though. Check out IDPA or USPSA. If you are a LEO, you might think it's looks a bit like work.

Anyone who has used a P30L, I am very interested to hear how it worked for you.
