Can a USP be converted to a USP Combat Competition? If yes, how does the frame accommodate the extended slide release lever? Also, if yes, can the conversion be done without a gunsmith?

Yes. Full size USP only. USP and USP CC have the same slide release lever. It can be done without sending to a gunsmith (though most will recommend that you have HK do it). I did a couple of my own and three for my friends.

You'll need the whole LEM kit and part of the Match Trigger kit (not the whole kit).

ETA: I forgot to mention that check your date code. You might need additional parts if it's an early model.
