Hello to all, I am a new member to this forum. I am looking to buy a VP9 and have a question on the sights. What material is the standard 3-dot sight made of? Do they glow to any extent and how long? I am being told that the VP9 LE night sights are illegal to be sold in the US due to they have tritium in them. Personally I think that either they don't know what they are talking about or they are just plain screwing me. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Tritium is 'illegal' in Germany, maybe Europe, just fine for use here.

The Mepro tritium sights on LE versions work perfectly fine and are a good value in addition to the additional magazine LE versions offer for about or less than $100 over non-LE versions.

There are also some US versions that come with TFX Pro sights, which are very nice as well.

The standard sights as SuperLuminova, they use ambient light to 'charge' and glow for some time once charged. They're pretty nice, but not glow in the dark as tritium are.

The luminescent sights are one the big pluses for the VP 9. For an old man like me, they are the best stock sights you can buy on a pistol. I don't plan on doing much shooting in the dark and they are very visible- one the reasons I bought the vp instead of a ppq.

I agree, I really like the luminescent sights. They are on both my P30s and my VP9. I don't think they are on my USPs.

Thanks all for the info. "They" (LGS) tried to tell me the tritium (Night Sights) on the LE were illegal to sell to public. After making some phone calls to other shops and getting them laughing bout what I was told. I am leaning towards both that they are screwing me and that the LGS don't know what they are talking bout due to that particular shop has most likely never ordered/sold a LE version. The bad thing is that they have my money and now I will have to wait till it comes in to deny the purchase. I will mostly also have to argue that what they ordered is NOT what I wanted. The two gentlemen I talked to said numerous times that the sku # on the purchase order is not the actual model that will come in. I will chalk this up to never again put money down on something that you can either not walk out with or the order paperwork has the right sku # on it.

Hopefully this all works out quickly so I start enjoying my new hobby!

Thanks again for providing the quick responses.

Update, I was talking to a friend about my issue and he said that he got a 700009LEL-A5 from that shop. The shop called me yesterday after noon and told me that they did not realize that is the gun I wanted. The gentlemen said a friend of mine stopped in and showed a picture of his which is what I wanted (LEL-A5) to begin with. I told the person that it was what I told his partner many times I wanted and the partner said yes that is what you will get. I said that the order form has the base model on it and asked what they are going to do. The person said they will fix the order and not charge me the restocking fee. So hopefully the partner will be schooled on the difference so another person will not have to go thru the same bs I did. At this point I am crossing my fingers but it still sucks that I have to wait to see how this turns out.
