I did a massive double-take. Hi-Points are all blow backs, and of course have massive slides as a result. I endure handling dozens of the things every month, so I know a lot more about them than I care to.

But the perspective in that photo is bizarre, to say the least...

yesterday a vendor had a vp70z mixed in with some highpoints in a consignment case. at a quick glace those two gun looks similar.

I was indeed referring to the angle the photo was taken at. The huge slides are a prominent feature of Hi-Point pistols.

To me, the angle of that photo makes the slide look out-of-proportion larger than it really is.

LSP, I went to your link without really comprehending what your post was saying, and I didn't catch the reference to #69. So, I went in blind, and just started scrolling through the pictures casually. As soon as I hit #69, it totally JUMPED off the page at me. It REALLY does bring Hi-Point to mind. At first, I felt almost sure that the pistol had been modified! After carefully looking at the picture, I think it is the camera which causes it to appear that way. Almost a fish-eye lens effect. . . sure does make one think Hi-Point though! Yuc!!!

I vote to get rid of that picture from our memories......2nd? IMO nothing appears modified. The dust cover looks like that on all USP45C pistols. I really hate Hi-Point crap. However, if you need a boat anchor, book ends or a door stop there you go.

I can't tell you how many Hi-Points (Lorcin & Jennings as well) we took off of the streets back when I was in Patrol. Out of all the subjects w/ handguns I dealt with only a handful possessed quality guns.

In a weird way that's somewhat comforting to me. Obviously nobody wants to or should have to deal with an armed criminal but if I were to get in a gunfight I only hope it's against a Hi-Point.

Well, better shoot first. Because odds are the bad guy's HiPoint will work just fine. No "gun guy" in his right mind would want one (except for a curio, perhaps), but two or three souls a month meet their end around here via HiPoint. A double homicide just yesterday morning yielded no shooter or weapon, but the brass they left behind says HiPoint was the instrument used.

GPD 45, times are changing. When I was on the road, I too saw mainly the cheap stuff in criminal's hands. Nowadays, its Glocks, Sigmas, Taurus, some Rugers, and of course HiPoint, for the most part. I'm retired now and at the crime lab; we haven't seen a Lorcin or Jennings (or Bryco or Jimenez Arms, the successors to the first two) come through here in almost a month. Every now and then one or two will show up.

Yesterday's test-fires consisted of three HiPoints (two 9mm and one .40), four Stigmas (three .40 and one 9mm), a Ruger P95DC 9mm, a Taurus PT145, a Sig P226R 9mm (stolen, naturally), and a Sig P226R DAK .40. That last one was not a "thug seizure"; it was taken off a doper who made a poor choice of buyer for his goods.
