I have a usp elite 45 and I took the o-ring off because the cycling felt rough, and I could see more pronounced wear on the top of chamber where the slide slides across the the top of the barrel. I put on another fresh o-ring but the cycling still felt rough. The cycling now is ulra smooth, smoother than my uspf 45.

If I shoot without the O-ring on, will the o-ring grooves or the slide be damaged?

I have heard that the o-ring really has no effect on accuracy too, but I haven't been able to see for myself yet.

I asked this same question a few months ago. The general answer I received was "Don't do it." The notch where the ring goes will start burring up and causing problems.

You can shoot it without an o-ring, but not suggested for long term use.

The "roughness" you're feeling is just the added friction of the rubber o-ring. It doesn't effect the cycling of the gun at all. I wouldn't shoot without the o-ring myself.
