I'm hearing that the firing chamber is fluted. Can anyone confirm this? Can anyone share photos so I can update the main post?
In this video Robbie Reidsma says the M110A1's chamber is fluted b/c the gun is intended to be run full time with a HuxWrx suppressor:

In this post, Jim Schatz/G3 Kurz said that the HK M110A1's chamber is fluted because "the extraction cycle is more violent that a DI AR-10" and the flutes ensure that the suppressed HK rifle will extract properly when firing "soft commercial cased match ammo and/or when the gun is fouled and/or running hot": H&k g28e csass.

I would assume what Jim meant by the HK M110A1's extraction cycle being more violent than a DI AR10 is that the HK starts extraction earlier in the chamber pressure curve compared to a SR-25 with rifle length DI gas system.

I've seen this video before, and I somehow missed this. I do want to see photos of what it looks like compared to the MR762.

EDIT: The important photos and details from this comment have now been integrated into the main post, 18SEP2023. I'm slowly expanding and adding details.

* * *

I've had a chance to do more ammo testing. Please take it with a grain of salt as I was shooting with quite a lot of caffeine in my system, and the shooting was more to ensure cycling + learing bullet characteristics, than specifically seeing just how precise & accurate the rifles are. I did however hope to shoot as tight as possible. I have a lot more details on Instagram now at Instagram: HKSniper11B but I will add the meat of it here.

This was the best shot group I had that day. This was shot with my MR762 LRPIII. Federal 175gr I found to be more consistent in vertical groupings than 168gr.

This was the best I had with the MR762 DMR. I got it zero'd in, then focused on 5 shot groups as I simply wished to see ammo characteristics, and ensure that everything I shot cycled. I found the Federal ammo to be extremely consistent, and if it wasn't for my caffeine induced flinching/anticipation, that 175gr would have been a super tight group. Details are as follows:

I did two sets of 5-shot groups. It took over 3 hours to get it done, and my body with no food and only caffeine in my system did not respond well. But, you can see some interesting characteristics from observing the shot groups, and there's slight differences in character between the 2012 MFD MR762 DMR "Blackie" and the 2021 MFD MR762 LRPIII "Tanner"

The most interesting thing I saw was that M118LR was consistently 1MOA to the left, every cold bore shot with the LRPIII. On the DMR, I had inconsistent natural point of aim, causing a zero shift, which is easily seen by the shot spread.

I have deficiencies as a shooter and there's consistencies in fundamentals I need to work on. But I hope that you all are able to see past this, look at the data, and take something from it.

For the record, Hornady TAP ELD AR 168gr is usually the best ammo I can shoot from both rifles, with the best BC. For whatever reason, I as a shooter did not shoot this ammo well this day. I'll be returning on a well-rested and non-caffeinated day to focus specifically on shooting groupings of Federal Gold Medal Match SMK 175gr, and Hornady TAP ELD AR 168gr, to include getting velocities.

Update 19SEP23: I've reweritten the secion on "THE BALANCE BETWEEN VELOCITY AND HARMONICS" in hopes of greater clarity and comprehension. I found it "ran on" when rereading it recently. I want to continue tweaking it and put in more examples of the move to 1:8 twist rates, negating the talk of "over spin" at that twist rate with the .308. I need to get more data from other gas gun manufacturers such as LaRue and LMT who build .308s in 1:8, and collect more data on their precision, distance capability and accuracy.

I've reread your comment numerous times the last few months @Tspeis and I feel you have an extremely valid point that needs to be better reflected in the original post. If you ever find time to help rewrite, edit, add or change any part of this original post, I whole-heartedly invite you to do so in the comments or in DM.

I am currently working to update what the contract requirement was for the M110A1 -- the CSASS and the SDMR -- as it seems many B4s thought this was supposed to be a sub MOA weapon system to and through. I have one source, a B4 Team Lead who worked with TACOM, saying it was 2.0 MOA. I've got an engineer who worked on the CSASS program who remembers it being 1.5 MOA, but needs to double check his records.

I'll update this comment, and the main post, with the correct information once I have it.

Will be adding these details, as I never thought to question the differences in the trigger from the Geissele HK417 vs the authentic CSASS trigger (there's practically none).

I'm not sure whether the SDMR precision requirement is the same as that of the CSASS. Back when the CSASS solicitation was available online, a synopsis of the CSASS solitication was posted on both this forum and M4carbine.net. That solicitation stated that the CSASS was to be "Capable of 0.60" AMR at 100m or better with match ammunition."

AFAIK, M118LR is still the standard load for the M110A1 SDMR and the SDMR also had to function satisfactorily with M1158 ADVAP for the theoretical Russian peer body armor defeat capabiltiy.

Are you able to find any of the original documentation? I cannot find anything, and no one has sent me anything. I also have not seen actual documentation on the CSASS capabilities and results. Those who did testing, are under NDA and refusing to say anything verbally.

Unfortunately, I can't find the original solicitation online. Here's some links to other forums/websites that mention the synopsis of the CSASS solicitation that list the 0.6" AMR precision requirement:
https://www.m4carbine.net/archive/index.php/t-182368.html (See member MichaelVain's post)

I don't know what the minimum precision requirements are for the SDMR but in this video @ around 37:56, Robbie Reidsma said that the 3 M110A1s they subjected to an endurance test were able to achieve an AMR of 0.6" in their final dispersion test (barrels were allowed to be replaced after 10k rounds during the endurance test):
