This release just doesn't make much sense to me

B&T doesn't like HK anymore because HK doesn't want to deal with B&T anymore.
So they are looking for any way to throw sand in their gears...

...sorry, I mean B&T "outgrew" their partner HK and they separated ways in a totally friendly way, as they put it officially, contradicting their actions.

With the broad availability of SP5s I do not know why you would potentially pay a premium for this.

Because they want to. As simple as that.

It seems like B&T has swapped a few SP5 parts out for some of their own MP5 parts.

The original BT96s used to be turkish MKE barrel and recievers mixed with a few in-house made parts and later even some HK parts.
After that B&T purchased MP5s (and likely SP5s) from HK directly, including "their" open front sight hood until somewhat recently.


According to B&T the BT96 was made between ~1995 and ~2005 IIRC with a few thousand units.
The ad above sounds like the barrel might now be made by B&T, a capacity they didn't have back then.

I am not sure if HK is willing to provide major SP5 parts to B&T at this point in time that they can't cobble up on the open market. So you'll get a mainly Turkish, partly Swiss made, Swiss or US assembled MP5 clone.

Are the 9mm barrels B&T uses for the their PCC's/SMGs made by B&T or by Merkel for B&T?

 

Will these be Sear ready? Or are those days long gone?

 

We need more MP5SD options, we can already buy a German SP5 for $2500ish.

I trust B&T’s manufacturing much more than I trust Turkish clones, or many of the mass produced clones here in the US. So depending on pricing, if this offering sits below the SP5 price wise, and competes with the Turkish clones on price, I could see it doing well.

 

Knowing B&T it’ll be over $3,000 which is absolutely NOT worth it when you can find a SP5 for less. They didn’t even weld the picatinny rail on. There’s nothing here that you can’t already do. I like the B&T MP5 accessories as an option since HK stocks in particular continue to rise in price and cost double what they realistically should. I do agree that a SD would make sense, with their experience in suppressors there’s no reason they couldn’t. A high quality SD would definitely sell well.

They offered an SP5 SD, and no they didn’t mess up the barrel or the suppressor. The issue was they used a spacer on the end of the SP5 cocking tube rather than using a correct SD style cocking tube with the build. B&T’s SD suppressor is a good option, and although I don’t have any experience with their SD barrels, I’ve heard good things about them from others here.

 

Offering factory SBR’s will draw buyers…even with $0 Form 1’s in the near future, there are certainly people who will pay to NOT have their trust information engraved on the gun.

 

This will be the best clone on the market…but still a clone.. and not at clone price.

Unless they surprise me and it’s significantly less than a German one. But I’ll be quite surprised.

 

Didn't the SP5SD conversion end up with RCM parts in it?

Honestly if this was sear ready I'd be interesting, I'm guessing it will not be. I hope it ends up being good though as it wouldn't hurt to have another good quality option.

 

At SHOT this year, they said it would be $6K+, if I recall correctly. The Rep did NOT seem overly enthusiastic and said the APC was a better gun.

But at $6K+ it does/was supposed to come with that ugly-azz collapsible/folding stock. Shut up and take my money!

 

I wouldn't preorder - BT promised times plus tariffs may be glacial. Lots of stuff was pledged for 2024 but well here we are....crickets.

Swiss tariffs are pretty brutal right now (will be 38% unless Switzerland and Trump strike a deal). Very sad to see as a Swiss arms fan (Swiss SIG)
