I talked with Ghilliebear off of here from Parabellum Combat Systems (one of the sponsors) and he recommended building off an HK 33 parts kit using a US receiver.

With all the builders on here should not be a problem getting one built. I have been told to stay away from Vectors. It seems with the HK Clones you get what you pay for. With most cheaper clones you will spend extra money over time upgrading them with HK or RCM parts to eventually get them running consistent. Check out HKParts or HK Specialist for parts to see the prices for upgrades.

PM Ghillie and he can send you the info you need and the parts you will need to acquire for a build. I Have not used him yet but he gets excellent reviews. I have used Mike Turner from Turner Fab (awaiting the return of a MP5 40 clone he is fixing for me) and Brethren (Doing some MP5 builds off HK kits). They have both been easy to work with and excellent at responding to questions.

Best of luck, once you start the addiction will surely set in and you will notice less money in your bank account.

the 53 is a great gun IMO. You can have it built as either a pistol or as a SBR. I'd rec' building it as a pistol and then once you have the pistol in your possession then send in the Form 4 to ATF to register it as a SBR.

Several exc. builders here. Cruise over to the vendor area. Their prices and backlog of work varies. Some builders are backed up for 9 mo, etc so it really depends on how long you are willing to wait, etc.

I have clones from Mike Otte (Michaels Machines ), Joe Stoppiello at Dakota Tactical, Jeff Walters of Parabellum, Gerard Miller of Power Shot, and DJ Getz Firearms. All of them do great work and have their own sub specialties. The specific 53 I have is a Michael's Machines gun and its one of my favorite hk sear hosts.

Get one through Ghilliebear! I thought I was getting a good one but one to find out, it was a ticking time bomb.

Blitzkrieg - if you had to do it again, would you do 52 or 52k Dragon? Trying to decide my next build. I don't have much arm hair, but afraid the 4.5" barrel would singe it all. I know, I know - obvious answer - get both...

Being originally an AR guy, I was heavily invested in the AR mag system. I held back getting a 5.56X45 roller locked because I didn't want to spend the money on another magazine system. Then Todd started selling the Coharie Arms CA53 AR. I bought one, liked it so much that I had Jeff build me 53Ks, 53s and 33Ks as pistols with SW53/93 AR receivers. It is not for a purist, but it is handy going to the range with just mag system for all of my 5.56X45 guns. Please keep us informed of your progress. YMMV.

If you can find an "OLD" Vector 53P, 80-90% of the time it'll run right outta the box. The NEW Vector company isn't quite there yet. Either way, Ghillie can make it right.

I AM sold on a Ghillie 33 project, have everything together now but have to wait to build till we build our new dream retreat home. If you're wanting one of these guns and can swing it, build it now before space invaders cart Ghillie away! :60:

Not mine, though I wish it was. This is another member's from his thread. Club foot looks sharp.

I've owned my HK93 to HK53 conversion for a number of years now, but there were always some details about it that always bothered me. I decided to send it to Gerard at Power Shot for a tune up and to get some custom work done. I'm no operator, but I had these ideas to make it what I consider tactical, but really just unique and special to me. Besides some detail work here and there, he welded a picatinny rail to the top, added reinforcement rails to the receiver, a G3 weld-on shell deflector and cleaned up the magwell engravings. I added one of my NIB Knight's Armament RAS' with Magpul AFG to complete the look I was going for. The attention to detail is amazing and Gerard's work exceeded my expectations! He truly is a master with the HK builds. With my DLO pack installed, I'm ready to run it wild. Here are some pics.
