I have only caught a wisp of internet ramble about some JLD receivers with the USA trunnion installed had issues with the Trunnion not being properly heat treated ( soft ) . Has anyone every heard of this or is this BS.. ? I have a New G3 kit built with this particular receiver trunnion set up... Thanks from the new guy....... WarDawg

Yes, heard a lot about it. Explanations ranged from not being properly hardened in the first place to the wrong alloy of steel used to make the part to the welding process overheating and annealing the trunion.

If any of them are true, it's that they weren't hardened in the first place. To anneal steel, you have to get it REALLY hot, and keep the heat on while the temperature very slowly drops over a period of hours. That doesn't happen in a welding operation.

The ones that had the problem knew because the bolt gap would quickly drop down to the minimum. If your bolt gap is anywhere from about .010" to .020" and not changing over time, then you don't have one of the problem rifles.

Thanks for the reply. I have a beautiful rifle built by ARS. I supplied everything. It was built years ago. . The roller gap was set "dead on" the high side . It's a low round count rifle . The serial number is BO1 X X ... I will check the gap every so often... Thanks.. WarDawg

what if you have +2 rollers in and an hk locking piece now,and bolt gap is .017. It has already gone back and had this done. Bolt gap is holding. Am I O.K Oh, my ser# is A614x What say you? this rifle shoots great. Is it possible they just put the wrong size rollers in to begin with? this is a ptr-91k. oh, and it is a jld marked rec. not the ptr inc. rec. think it was built in 2006

.017" is nearly a perfect bolt gap. Shoot it 1000 rounds and check the gap peridocally. If it's staying up around .017", they you're fine.

OK there should be a Number cut off if the company actually wants us to know... Mines a B0147 . I'm guessing the B represents a bare receiver ..Not a complete rifle ???? Any guess to where mine falls ??? Anyone actually contacted JLD and gotten straight info from them over this issue ??? Thanks for the info and just wanted to say GREAT SITE :)>>>>> WarDawg

That would depend on who installed the trunion. If the builder of your gun used a trunion from a kit, you would be good to go with a correctly made foreign trunion. If the trunion was US made, installed by JLD, I'd check the gap regularly as you have a low ser #. No one has ever come up with a ser # cut off date. For all we know, the trunion story might just be that, a story. It's not like we have to buy head spacing equipment to check. A set of gap gages from the local auto parts store is cheap. Keep checking the gap after every use. Mine has always been .017. GARY N4KVE

Jose

Believe me, I know Jose. He has called me a couple of times. Very business oriented man. We couldn't come to an understanding between us and he went his own way. Wish him the best with his PTR32 rifle. It would be nice to see it for sale in the future.

Hello,

My rifle is S/N A439X and it has its bolt gap being gradually decreasing from 0.018 (new) to 0.017, then to 0.015, then to 0.014 and now it's at 0.011. I'm the original owner and this rifle had approx. 700-800 rounds thru it in its entire life.

I didn't change the rollers (yet), but I had it sitting in the colset for the last ten years just out of the fear it will go kaboom.

Have anyone heard back from JLD/PTR on possible issue with trunnions on these early rifles?

See if you can send me a PM with your contact number,, the answers to help you are to much to type , I also saw your other post about the hammer falling pre- maturally, both are 2 different issues. I can explain much easier verbally.. I see you are 2 hours new ,and may not be able to Private message me.. but you definitely need to get some +2 rollers in it and possibly a New locking piece,, I had the same issue with an A# serial 6*** Thompson center barreled JLD back in 08'.

And yes, barrels do move slightly forward after time, and sometimes more then others, but .011 is still good ,, .05 would be a major issue... Let's get her up and running.. hoping the others will chime in. Mine finally settled in at .013 with +2 rollers and ran flawless. Hammer dropping can be a few different things.

tcr39, thanks. I have ordered the oversized rollers and a locking piece and will be replacing them soon. I hope it will help with the gap issue and I will post update once it's done.
I'm still very much concerned about the hammer dropping when bolt is unlocked. Is it a design issue on all H&K G3/91 rifles or it's something unusual?
P.S. Yes, regrettably I cannot use PM.
