So I referenced a bit and found this would be an affordable alternative to getting an LEM mod done to a V3 P30. I went to Wolff Springs and got a 12lb. and 10lb. Hammer Spring to replace the 14lb. stock one. Many people speak against such a modification, but I have yet to hear anybody speak of light striking on primers. Here are some pics to just go over the simple change out of Hammer Springs in case somebody would like to do this.

*I am unaware of how this affects H&K warranty, so be warned!*

BEFORE ANY WORK IS DONE ENSURE GUN IS NOT LOADED!!!! PROPER HANDLING OF GUN IS REQUIRED!

1. Gather a roll pin punch, a small hammer, and your replacement springs. Pictured below are the 3 springs I have at my disposal: the stock blue 14lb. spring, the 12lb spring, and a 10lb. spring on the right,

2. Start by tapping out the roll pin on the bottom of the grip and setting the back panel of the grip aside with the roll pin.

3. you will then see the hammer spring

4. In the picture below you will notice a silver pin holding the spring device in. Remove this. Although this pin does not take near as much force to remove as the roll pin for the back panel, take care as this spring is under tension and everyone knows how springs like to throw themselves across the room.

5. After that is done, pull off the little black spring holding piece and pull of the spring.

6. Pick you replacement spring and slide onto the spring 'rail'. Take note of how the 'rail' can move down and ensure this doesnt happen, if it does move it around and up back into place.

7. Reverse the process to reattach the spring holding device onto the spring 'rail'

8. Slide the back panel back on.

9. Before tapping the roll pin back in, ensure the hammer functions properly in both Double-Action and Single-Action.

10. Take to range to test for any light strikes.

I just finished this little modification and will be going to the range within a day or two to test it out. Personal preference found the 10lb. spring to feel pretty light in DA and for my personal taste it was too light. The 12lb. spring seemed to be just right amount of weight in DA.

For a total order with both springs + shipping under $20, it may be wise to get both and decide for yourself before trying to convert the gun to LEM

Enjoy!

Nice write up.

Could you be so kind as to run a box or two of range ammo and some personal defense grade ammo through your P30 with that 12 lb hammer spring. I have been thinking about doing the same thing, but do not want to run into light strikes. Edited to add it would be great if you were able to run a few Speer Gold Dots through it.

It runs great in my P30. 630 rounds, speer lawman, fiocci, gold dots. and some WWB thrown in there for round count. I am using the 12# spring. My results are typical for the research I did on using the lighter spring(zero functioning issues).

did you cut the 12# spring in the first picture? Mine are about a coil and 1/2 longer than the stock, your's looks the same length.

I was able to run 70 rounds (PMC 115gr.) through the 12lb. hammer spring before I had to watch some hockey playoffs. All 70 rounds, majority shot in DA, performed flawlessly. I didn't want to bother changing out the 10lb. spring, while I was there, but I'll get around to it eventually and will also post results for that too. Although, I expect it will perform fine as I have read some testimonies of people using the 10lb. spring.

EDIT: Unfortunately, I dont have an electronic gauge otherwise I'd have pull weighs of the 14lb.,12lb.,10lb. springs in both DA and SA.

SA pull weight was also slightly reduced with the 12lb. spring. I cant proportionally compare exactly how much cause most my attention was being paid to the change in DA weight, but it feels good to me. The 10lb. spring makes DA/SA feel too light for me to consider putting in a gun that I would use for defense. If I competed with this gun then a 10lb. may be the way to go.

If I ever get around to finding an affordable trigger gauge, I'll report back to here with exact pull weights
