Have you ever used your warranty?

Hi, I'm new here, and I'm looking for insight from current HK owners.

I'm shopping around for my to-be first HK, an SP5. This year, a magazine capacity restriction in my home state of Washington passed, so I'm cross-shopping between a HK-USA SP5 with the 10rd magazines, and the Euro import models. I read on the HK-USA website that they will only warranty their own imports, but I'll still entertain a good price for a Euro model if the opportunity arises.

So, have any of you needed warranty work on your SP5? If you did, what was wrong, how bad, and could have you fixed it yourself? Have you had to negotiate with HK's customer service to get work done? Or do you think forgoing a warranty to save some money is a good (or bad) idea?

I personally have not used the warranty on either of my 2 SP5s , 1 SP5L or SP5K. it is a relatively new release, even though it is a classic MP5 design so really no surprise there.
You’ll have to roll the dice and make your own choice between the US import and the euro import.
*Just a sidenote i’ve had HK’s for 37 years and never used the warranty. Yes, there were small issues I fixed by myself, which some may have had to turn in for warranty work.
The only thing I requested from HK and I think it was back in 1992…. I lost the lock down screw out of the rear sight on my 93. I sent them a letter and I received a very fancy written card in the mail in an envelope with the screw saying “with our compliments, Heckler and Koch” on it. I still have the card in my collection.

Been shooting HK's since 2008, never needed warranty work.
One time. In the 80s. I had a P7 that punctured primers. When it did, the blow back messed up the spring in the firing pin assembly. I sent it to HK. I received a call from the then head of HK, Hubert Zink. He sent me a new gun and several firing pin assemblies for spares. I later saw that same gun, s/n 12542, in a write up in one of the gun rags. I still have the replacement.
That stupid Washington law will be overturned before too long, once the cases against it apply the Supreme Court Bruin decision, and actually look at the second amendment. Until then, there are vendors out there that will simply remove the mags it would normally come with. At least then you can get your firearm without too much hassle, and buy 10 rounders. Bud's gunshop has this option, and I have seen SP5's come in and out of stock several times over the last month or so.

As far as warranty, I doubt you'll need it... Especially once you have a dozen or more HK's- with wear and tear getting spread out...
Thanks everyone, that's reassuring to hear. I'll buy with confidence when I get the chance.

May not entirely apply to your situation but my experience with HK-USA.

My HK experience: My USP9 was my IDPA/2 Gun comp gun and the double action pull had become incredibly gritty and stacked. Further, the finish on one side of the hammer was complement rubbed of. I contact HK C/S and provided details and pics of what I described.

The C/S rep sent me a shipping labe and I dropped off the gun at FEDEX. The USP got to HK the next morning and I got an email notification at 3ish pm that day (day of arrival) that my firearm was fixed and already on my way back.

Long and the short, the hammer axle was significantly worn. The tech performed and full strip, clean, service, replaced parts, test fire/function, and sent it out the same day it arrived. Trigger grit/stack was resolved. Customer service was amazing and fast. Granted my issue was replacement of a few parts but I was very happy! So far that’s the only HK I’ve ever had to have any warranty work on in my 8 years of owning HK’s. So

I’ve put tens (or by now hundreds?) of thousands of rounds through 40-50 HKs and have not had to deal with any warranty issues. I’m not even that great about cleaning them.

I think odds are pretty good you won’t need to either.

Thank you for the reply. I own HK pistols chambered in .45 as well as .40, and I purchased them new. I have been trying to acquire the p30sk, and keep seeing them go on auction sites for almost 50% of what my local GS has them for. Never bought a second-hand pistol before, but I think I will go ahead and take the plunge.
