IMO, if it isn't belt fed and weighs more than 20 pounds, I'm not really sure why you'd want a carry handle.

How many times have you found yourself in a situation where you said to yourself "gee, this would be so much easier if I had a carry handle installed"?

 

I don't care for them. The carry handles will scratch and mar the crap out of your HK91.

I won't have one without it. But then I have field experience lugging one around a dense forest. Sometimes a sling won't cut it. I could care less about the finish on a fighting tool, either

 

just like a cleaning rod in a AK, a HK91 just doesn't look right without a carry handle. I put one on my 91 clone, even though like the AK cleaning rod I will never use it.

 

Where is a good place to look at a carrying handle and where is a good place to buy one?

The carry handle is one of the first accessories I have bought for my g3 type rifles. If it's going to be a safe queen I wouldn't bother, but for a using kinda rifle, I like it. I use mine to carry it often.

When I consider buying an HK it is a negative if it has one installed. To me a carry handle was an option to consider when the firearms were much cheaper - not at today's prices because of the damage they cause.

This is what you can expect to find after removing the carry handle. When I acquired this HK 91 the previous owner did not include the carry handle. I don't think it saw much use, but the handle definitely carved in a gouge through the finish. They look good on there, but plan on keeping it on the rifle from then on.

I used the carrying handle while I used my rifle on camping and hiking trips. I did not find an advantage to having it installed.
I have installed two carrying handles. The first one I placed the wire part of the handle in a vice and bent the ends to that they were closely aligned, when they are new the ends normally are not in line. I believe that the damage to the rifle was minimized by aligning the ends, these are the ends that touch the receiver. When I put these handles on the guns were $500 and $1000. At todays prices I would have little interest in installing one on a mint finish gun. I would go so far as calling it HK abuse

 

I don't find any use for a carry handle on a G3... YMMV

 

I don't think the German Army uses them either, FAL yes G3 no.

 

I've never seen any country using G3s with carry handles. I'm sure there must be someone somewhere, but surely they are not popular in this rifle.

 

The idea of adding another snag point, bulk or weight to a rifle seems counter intuitive to me. I also concur that most tend to interfere with optics.
Free your hands up for other useful purposes and just sling your rifle.
