HK Firing Pin Help

So I have my new used HK P2000, and I noticed something strange while dry firing it today.

Unlike my GLOCKs, my HK's firing pin is not visible (just an empty hole) or missing. I know it's a dumb question, but is the firing pin actually there? I've heard internet rumors that HK firing pins can break if snap caps are not used when drying. Obviously, being a used gun of unknown round count, I don't know what the gun has been through. I did notice when I got it that it was greased (so lord knows what else the previous owner(s) have done with it).

All of my snap caps are well used and have an indentation already from strikes from other guns, so I couldn't tell by using my snap caps if it's been getting hit with the firing pin. I did put some sharpie in one of the indentations and the sharpie did get worn away.

So the question is, to P2000 owners, when you lock the slide back, can you see the firing pin sticking out of the hole?

Oh, yes, and I know shooting it would solve the question, but I don't have the time to go to the range any time soon.

Put a pencil with a new eraser down the barrel, point up, and pull the trigger (make sure gun is unloaded of course). If the firing pin is OK the pencil will hop right up and out of the barrel, or at least enough that there will be do doubt. You should be able to see the back of the firing pin and yes, you should use snap caps. Any FP can break, not just HKs, but older USP/Cs did have a problem a few years back but I have not heard of this with the P2K/SK.

That is a smart idea, I would have never thought about that. I just tried it. Now I have a hole in my ceiling (8ft height) where the dang pencil stuck. DUH...

Do it outside, lol!

Don't know about the P2000, but on the USPc just take the slide off, push the firing pin block in, then use a soft object to push on the rear of the firing pin. Pin should be exposed. It's good to do this every once in a while to see if your firing pin spring is crapped up.

Or if you don't want to field strip and you have a real bright light, look closely down the barrel (UNLOADED OF COURSE) and you can see it lurking in the hole.

Take the slide off, depress the firing pin block, it is a ~3/8" round pin with two flat sides (looks like piece of pie). Then you can depress the firing pin enough to expose it in the breech. It will only be exposed about a 1/8".
