Hello. It's great to find a forum dedicated to the HK platforms. The amount of knowledge available is awesome.

I have already identified the H&K G3 20-round magazines in my possession. Total of 10 in 4 separate groups. 4 are Vietnam Era and 6 are post-Vietnam but are pre-ban (1994).

However, in my case everything I can find is several years old and the photos are either gone or not detailed enough to answer my questions.

I have two unique styles of HK G3 30-round magazines as you can see in the photos. However, I need to identify, hopefully, the manufacturer and approximate years of production. I believe that these are made by HK for export to other countries desiring a 30-round magazine but am uncertain. I also believe that these are pre-ban (before September 13, 1994) but have no way of knowing for certain without help.

I'd appreciate any assistance you all can provide.

Thank you,

Unfortunately, those are all the 30rd M14 conversion mags made by national mags. They took a 30rd M14 mag, a cheap piece of sheet metal that was formed to copy the top part of the HK91 mags, so that they would insert, and tack welded it on the top. They used to be like $15 bucks, and every one that I have used does not function hardly at all.

My apologies, I wanted to add a bit more info for you. I have a bunch of 30rd mags in pretty much all of the styles that were made...I think. The South African straight 30rd mags that chrishk21 is talking about look exactly like an HK mag body. I believe they were a South African military contract built mag (Hence South African mag haha). The other styles are TIG welded together, by either MCP mags or it is also thought that HK potentially made some of these for some kind of contract. I'm sure someone else has better knowledge on the history of this.

Unfortunately those are about the worst magazines ever made for an HK. They are ugly and don't work. Value wise, I wouldn't pay $5 for one.

I purchased some of the welded ones years ago dirt cheap at a gun show… ahhh the good old days. I have shot thousands of rounds through them misfed maybe three or four times with ball ammo, always kept the internals well lubed.

I have 2 crates of these 30rd Hk 91 mags that I purchased from the Hk rep in 1988. There were 2-3 diff runs, some had a small protruding seam on the outside where they were mated, some were completely smooth. There were a few guys back then who built 30rd 91 mags, some good, some junk, because they used battlefield pickup garbage from Africa and South America.

2 milk crates full of 30rd factory 30rd Hk91 mags, at least 8 milk crates full of 1980's 20rd Hk91 mags in the brown wrappers, tons of P7, P9, VP70z, USP, MP5 and some really rare USGI steel M4 30rd mags made for SF.

I've been collecting Hk since the late 70's and I've run across some really cool stuff. Nothing for sale till the Dr says I'm dying.

Sir you just disappointed half the people on this site, actually maybe more than that.
I can remember buying P9S mags by the shoebox full because nobody wanted them I kept enough to make a nice stock of spares and sold the rest…
