Hello team,

I just bought MR223 , 500 rounds gone by and now i figure out i need sling :)

How the hell do you mount up a sling on this baby, any of you have any recommendation? ? I was thinking MS4 QDM Sling.

If you want one point QD sling, you will need adapter plate for QD mount.

I have similar interest in having 2 (3) point mount sling. Slimline hand guard causes the issue due to lack of picatinny rails on sides. I knew you can add short or long rails mounted on hkey... but...
Recently I found the solution: magpul sling eye mounted on top picatinny next to iron sight. The eye itself would be 45 degrees on hkey side. It could be QD too. The second sling end would be tighted on buttstock.

My primary occupation is still at Ase Utra sound suppressors, from where some forum members may remember me from.

Also a part owner for several years at Treaper Ltd.

Here is another alternative that has not been mentioned, the Recon sling from us:

https://www.3hgr.fi/en/verkkokauppa/tuotteet/3hgr-recon

- Quality materials with IR protection
- Does not absorb water in the same way as slings that utilize cotton in the sling material. So very good feature from the arctic to the jungles.
- Very good pricing for the quality

Great sling overall, even compared to the BFG VCAS slings, which I have personally used for many years.

Best Regards!

He mentioned needing a sling and also about mounting.

I did not go into the mounting as a lot of people have their own preference.

I prefer just mounting to the stock without QD and having a suitable mount on the front handuard, again not necessarily needing to be QD if I am not intending on switching the same sling to other rifles.

However often I do mount a HK hook to the front for ease of removal, for taking the handguard off for access to the gas piston for cleaning and so forth.

Nice. Personally would route back of sling on other side of stock (for right shoulder use).

With font mount in front of the support hand, you are able to tension sling with support hand elbow for those longer shots. It all depends on needs and purpose. For "tactical" use, especially with lots of stuff and what not on handguard putting sling mount closer to receiver (like in Geissele handguard) makes more sense. For target/competition shooter ability to stabilize rifle with sling makes more sense.

AFIK reinforced buffer tube is part of OTB package. I was first an option, then became standard. MR223 had it from start back in 2009. As far as MR556 I suspect that tube used initially could be US made part and initially. Is tube used now fitted with stock play reducing detents?

BTW I managed to put "mil-spec" Magpul CTR (or was it MOE?) stock on my "commercial" HK tube in my old MR223. It was not "quick adjustable" but sill could be adjusted by hand with some force. It was rock solid. Of course detents were completely unscrewed.

so, I'm late to the party, as usual anymore.....

I like quick adjust 2-points. personally, I use the BlueForce Gear Vicker's sling. There are lots of other quick adjust 2-points out there now, I just prefer the VCAS.

as for mounting. Mine is QD'd to the forward end of my rail (Gieselle), and looped through the slots at the rear of my stock. I like my sling to be as close as possible to either end of the rifle. some prefer to have the forward attachment back further. it is a preference thing...

Hey everyone if you are interested in a solution for slim line stocks please check thread i created. Im working on a solution for a long time and there are already plans to ship some to the US. Patent is already pending in germany we are just on checking coating. It will be available for 416 and 417 Models.

best regards from germany!

Hi Rottweiler,
Is your concept related to IEA Mil-Optics GmbH?

They offer a QD adapter for the MR308 Slim Line Stock and working on the adapter for the MR223 Slim Line Stock actually (at least that is what they wrote to me).
I solved the problem with the missing QD mount at the HK Slim Line Stock with drilling in a QD shell and can now connect a QD swivel from both sides.

IEA Mil-Optics offers as well a QD Mount for the H-Key handquard interface for quite a price.
But ok, if you have to consider that you have to buy the 54mm H-Key Picatinny from HK and on top a Picantinny QD adapter you might come to near the same costs. For me it was a buy.

Played around quite a bit with sling setup these days and I want to share my current one on my MR223 (slim line):

My requirement was:
  • Stable setup (I'm one of the few who does prefer the HK hooks over QD mounts, that just seems safer to me)
  • Sling without padding (I prefer a straight sling that is less likely to get caught up in my other gear)
  • Quick way to shorten/longen it
  • Mount on the handguard not all the way upfront but slightly behind my hand (C clamp)
  • Mount on the stock all the way back

I'm using the Lindnerhof Trageriemen Gewehr GS113 (made in 🇩🇪 IIRC some of the German special forces use this brand) and a Magpull sling hook mount for the Picatinny rail. The elastic bands at both ends is handy to fix the setup and reduce dangling/noise of the hooks.

After the first unboxing it was a bit tricky to get the fast adjustment right, you do want to roll up the excess material in a way that the sticky part of the velcro doesn't interfere with the movement, and you either pull on the handle (longer) or the excess part (shorter). Might be obvious to others, but some slings I had before were different so it took me a few moments to figure out.

Quite happy with this for now (until I might change the stock). Comments, feedback? :)
