Hi guys new to the forum and H&K. Just recently purchase the HK VP9. I have had an issue on assembly after the disassembly that I was hoping someone might be able to help with. This is probably newbie error that I'm hoping can be fixed.
Currently my VP9 slide is stuck all the way back, the slide lock just floats, the recoil spring rod is sticking out under the barrel and nothing will budge. I've attached a picture if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone.

Not dislodged, but the only way I could get my recoil rod to protrude that far is to place the assembly in a way forward position on the barrel. Now my slide is stuck, though I did not force it that far back. Do you remember where on the barrel lug you placed the recoil assembly? was it on the very front of the lug rather than farther back on the steps? How hard was it to cycle the slide that far back?

Thanks so much for your help so far. Any help to dislodge the rod would be great. The slide was moving and then I pulled it back one more time to see if the takedown lever would go back to fully open and now the slide is stuck all the way back but the slide release/lock just moves up and down not doing anything.

Try inverting the weapon and banging it into the palm of your hand a few times while inverted. Now try pulling the slide back while pulling the trigger.
I had the same thing (sorta) happen to me and that was enough to re-seat the recoil assembly, allowing the slide to come off.

Good luck!

If you have to compress the spring on the recoil assembly more than 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch to place it on the second step of the lug, you are placing it in the wrong spot. To verify, there is a small scallop machined out of the correct step on the lug. It's impossible to capture the assembly on the first step. But compressed 3/8 inch, and the assembly can be captured on the front of the lug which when I replaced the slide, it seized on the frame.

Just cleaning it. No modifications. I was finally able toe T the slide to release and get the takedown lever to turn to 6 o'clock. Now the slide moves back and forth. Unfortunately the barrel and rod are still sticking out past the frame and the slide will not move forward enough to slide out. Here's a picture of what it looks like now.

Azimuth and robmed thanks so much for all your help. I'm not completely sure what went wrong but with a little consistent tap of the Palm and side to side taps it freed up and I was able to release the stuck slide, open the takedown lever fully and then pull the trigger and release the slide completely. When I disassembled the slide everything was facing/seated in the correct spot. Maybe the barrel and Rod popped into place after the trigger pull or something. But thanks again guys for all your help it is much appreciated! Can't wait to explore the site more!

I have not the issue with my new VP9 but locking the slide back and moving the take down lever to the 6 o'clock position it is very difficult to get the slide off. It takes a couple of tries. Next time I may lock the slide back, turn the take down lever and then releasing the slide lock o see if will "fly" off.

Late to the party but I just did this yesterday, first time in 4K rounds/40+ cleanings; your pic looked exactly like my gun. It seems it can be easy to start the slide in the frame grooves and run it back, up to the point where the locking block is, and then the slightest twist can cause one side or the other of the slide to jump the frame groove and jam the slide. A scary amount of push down got mine to re-seat, YMMV. Now I don't take it for granted that all will remain aligned, and I force the slide back AND DOWN as it runs over the block and on back. Hope that helps future fat-fingerers like myself.
