Ideas for G3/HK91 updates

Hey guys.

What would you guys like to see for updates to the G3/HK91 platform?

The biggest thing I can think of is a more western (AR) style mag release system. Next would be a reciprocating charging handle that connects to the BCG.

One question I did have was:

If given the choice would you use the traditional style collapsing stock but with extra slots for more length of pull adjustability, or would you use a side folding stock much like the newer G36 rifles have that also have adjustable LOP?

I would love to hear any suggestions, especially from anyone with first hand experience from combat theatres. But any suggestions are welcome.

BTW, it'll still use current G3 mags as they are cheap and plentiful.

Not really going to happen with a roller-delayed, blow-back weapon. The mass is needed for operation.

Why on earth would you want a reciprocating charging handle?! That thing could take a finger off if it was moving.

I've been meaning to post that exact thought but I thought I'd leave it to someone else.

Not to mention that the charging handle on an HK91 moves 5.5 inches!

The reciprocating charging handle is for easier forward assist.

If you are charging the weapon properly there is no real need for a forward assist. Even while I was in the Marines I can't recall an instance where I needed the forward assist on my M16s.

You can have some grooves milled into the side of the carrier like the Norwegian carrier and the 93 and MSg90 or whichever marksman rifle has them.

They call it the silent bolt closure or something.

I like what the Swedes did with the AK4 for upgrades. The serrations on the Norwegian bolt carrier are a good idea as well.

Since they removed the iron sights, you would think they would have gone with a buttstock with a higher comb for better stock weld with an optic.

That metal forearm must get pretty hot in a fire fight.

The only thing I would change is the fact that HK doesn't currently produce it. It's perfect otherwise.

I cannot imagine it would be easy to stop that heavy bolt coming back as hard as it does.

Might not be easy to do but it would be a nice upgrade if it worked.

The only thing I'd like to see a collapsible stock that has a 13" length of pull position with a heavy buffer. I don't care to change anything else really. Maybe some type of scope rail mount that will fit over the ejection port buffer but that's about it.
