Ummm...nah. If you actually need a forward assist, you've either got bad ammo OR a dirty gun. Sh!tcan the ammo or clean the gun. Recent custom AR builds are omitting the forward assist. I've had my first AR since the 70's and haven't touched the forward assist yet. That was only added as a bandage because the idiots in the Army insisted on using the gunpowder they had in stock, rather than use the correct powder that was recommended.

I've only had one instance using any of my HKs or clones not going fully into battery and that was a new build 51K where I didn't make the spring long enough. also you're not going to get any additional improvement by going to an AR style mag release.

The only improvement I could suggest might be a bolt hold open similar to an AR system. Having to lock the bolt back or cycle the bolt for a new mag could be improved upon.
This I can heartily agree with.

Think Ghillie said something about this a while back. He said that the constant abrupt stoping would eventually gash into the receiver thus accelerating the effects of roller marks.

I cannot imagine it would be easy to stop that heavy bolt coming back as hard as it does.
Might not be easy to do but it would be a nice upgrade if it worked.

Nonsense. You put the catch virtually at the end of the recoil impulse. The bolt is traveling very slowly at that point. It actually comes just about to a stop at that point before it reverses direction and is capable of taking your thumb off.

This guy nailed it right on the head. I'd venture to say bad ammo would more likely cause the gun not going into battery than being dirty. If the gun is getting that dirty you've far exceed a combat load or you've got foreign objects in the chamber. Either way you don't want to keep jamming a round in the gun.

As for reciprocating charging handles, I'm much more worried about it getting caught on something when I'm shooting in confined cover/concealment and causing a malfunction rather than it biting me.

HK already has made an improved version of the G3/HK91. Its called HK417.

The only thing I'd like to see a collapsible stock that has a 13" length of pull position with a heavy buffer. I don't care to change anything else really. Maybe some type of scope rail mount that will fit over the ejection port buffer but that's about it.
