Is MR762 LRP worth it

Let's try this again as my first post was deleted since I can't talk about other competitors to the HK MR762 on this forum to learn the pros and cons. All hail HK

Besides the 1:11 vs 1:12 twist, everything else can be purchased separately to have the same "package" for a much lower price than what the LRP MSRP is priced at. What made you go with the LRP or against it? Any difference in accuracy between the two? Given the same type of add-ons.

“Worth it” is relative… why do you want the LRP? You can purchase a base MR762 and outfit it with all of the comparable accessories (optic, bipod, etc) at a fraction of the cost — with the exception of upgrading the stock and buffer tube assembly. It was hard for me to justify the $8K USD +/- price tag for the LRP when I can get the same performance at a fraction of the cost.

I've never been a fan of buying guns that come with optics. Rarely do I want the specific optic it comes with. It looks like Mtn_guy has a ViperPST of some kind. I own one and and it's a very nice optic that I run it on a bolt gun. I personally would probably run some time of LPVO on it. As others mentioned, I think you're probably better off using an MR762 and making it "exactly'" what you want it to be.

tl;dr: If you price out an LRP down to every single component and accessory included, it comes out the same price whether you build it out, or get the LRP. Is it worth it? Yes. And barrel profile is entirely subjective to the ammo you choose to shoot, along with the purpose of the rifle itself. Build accordingly.

IMO, absolutely not. I went with the standard MR762, not because I was trying to save money, on the contrary I didn’t want to waste money. The LRP is equipped with subpar accessories that I would throw out anyway. However my goal was to build out a G28, or as close as I could get to it. In the end, I spent waaaay more on my MR762 than the standard LRP. I’m just not interested in the package. You can do way better by building your MR762 exactly the way you want it, versus the package HK put together.

It's not worth it by the numbers as stated. The scope is unremarkable and having previously owned the heavy barrel I prefer the lighter barrel. You won't notice the twist difference.

The only way I would go with the heavy barrel again at all is if I knew I could get it dimpled, and if I trip over a couple thousand in cash on my way to the outhouse. Only real difference I notice is the weight.

Also the G triggers are overrated IME. Just wanted to get that off my chest if we're talking ways to waste money on parts.

I'm seeing new LRP 3 packages sub $6500. Cheapest I could find from a reliable retailer was just under $6300 delivered to my FFL. Street prices for normal MR762's seem to be in the $3800 to $4000 range unless you score a used one in the lower $3k range. So lets say round figure of $2500 in price difference best case scenario new vs new. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but G28 stock kits with the correct buffer tube to make the adjustable cheek piece work as designed are in the $800 range right now. So now you're down to a $1700 price difference if you want a g28 stock for your regular mr762. The vortex optic is worth $700 to me, I can happily use it on another gun and put the proper S&B scope on the LRP. Now we're down to $1000 price difference. You get a pre cut hard case with the LRP. Value maybe $200? All in all breaking it down I'd pay the extra $800 to $1000 for the LRP over a normal MR.

You can get a new MR762 in the $3500 range all day. But what you stated is correct regarding the LRP III. I can get them in the $6200-$6500 range. With the sling, tripod, and such it is probably close to a $500-$800 difference. If I see a heavy barrel MR762 version at a decent price, I might grab it and build it with the accessories I like. Currently, I'm leaning toward the package.

I bought a used A1, sent it to BOD for g28 conversion. If I bought a useable optic I would come out to about the same price as base LRP, but I’m gonna go for the clone correct optic setup. At the end of the day if you want to choose what optic, mount, bipod, etc goes on your gun then go base model.

I scored my LRP III for around 6200 but even at that price I don’t think there’s much justifying it. The scope/mount is frankly underwhelming for a rifle like the MR762, and the other added accessories total up to less than a grand. The tighter twist rate on the barrel is the only thing truly “exclusive” about it, but my old 1:12 MR762 I bought a few years back shot fantastic anyway
