I don’t think that’s the case for either company. I think we often misconstrue their limited production capacity and the high demand for their products from military, law enforcement, as them not caring about the civilian market. Those large contract runs from military and law enforcement agencies are always going to take precedence over production for civilian products, because it represents greater revenue. As for discontinuing products, it’s just good business sense. Although people on this forum may want RAS rails for the MP5, that’s a niche order that pails in comparison to their larger orders for other products. Lastly, both of these companies are innovative, it’s what draws us to them. To remain relevant, they make decisions to shift production capacity to newer products rather than just doing what they’ve always done. This is necessary for any company to survive and remain relevant, and it’s not something limited to HK or KAC.
I suppose that's the reality of what's going on but... Since they already own all the tools and die or whatever they use to crank out the MP5 RAS, how hard can it really be to punch out an order every year or so that always sells out? Maybe they should make a double or triple batch but I suppose they work off dealer pre-orders. Ever since the Sicario movie and the release of the SP5 it would seem to be a positive cash flow item. I'm still annoyed Knight's has discontinued the 45 ACP Mark23/USP can but people have said here they may update the product. They aren't really that quiet unless shot wet anyway but HK is picky as to what devices can be used on those two guns. Got an Impulse II recently and was completely underwhelmed unless shot wet.

KAC is a business they have to allocate employees and resources to what makes the most money which is the military contracts and fact of the matter is militaries have pretty much phased out the MP5. Although I did see a recent photo surface of a Seal with one but that is rare. Florida has seen the highest inflation rates resources have to be allocated wisely. Sadly in today's world it just ain't worth it to run 150 Rails. In 10 years you will see them going for $2000.

i guess according to the OP they are already selling for $1200 and that’s before they were technically discontinued. $1200 will look cheap in some time haha

Just spitballing, but maybe the biggest limitation in them just cranking them out is having the custom aluminum extrusions on hand. Wouldn't be surprised if running out was why they stopped the Aimpoint and Picatinny mount.

I didn't realize that the KAC RAS was this hard to find now. I traded a Franklin binary trigger for one new in box, with the knights foregrip. I just picked up a sear, and I thought my buddy was getting the better end of our deal. I can't picture shooting my HK 53 without that thing, and should probably buy another for the future MP5.

As someone who doesn't own the red dot sight mount, why would it not work with the 53? Is the top rail too wide to accommodate it? I thought it would have considering the mp5/53 stocks are the same, minus the length of pull

The KAC RDS connects where the hole is on the KAC handguard. The MP5 cocking handle sits further forward than the HK53. When locking the 53 back the cocking handle will hit the RDS mount.

I have been collecting them since they were first released. I even got the first batch ever made at some point in the past with no markings on the side rails.

They have always been expensive since then for almost 15 years until a few years ago a new batch was made and price was down for a while.

The reintroduction of it a few years back it was a nice surprise. It is a shame if KAC is really not making them anymore.
