So looking into these MAC5 MP5 clones and I am reading good reviews but also hearing bad things about locking shoulders are not right and being sent back and bad machine marks. I would like your input as I am in the market to grab one. Thanks.

Are you referring to the locking device? If so I think they are 120 degree but still waiting for confirmation. I shot some 124gr ammo loaded for USPSA minor it was nice and soft with the stock locking device, but I would imagine factory ammo might be a bit over gassed. I am ordering a 80,90,100 degree to see which is better suppressed. I have a sample size of 2 but both mine don't have any bad machining marks and the bolt gaps where both right in the middle of the acceptable range.

I feel like every thread I’ve seen about those guns, whether here, Reddit, Arf, etc is mostly complaints.

I’d rather pay more for a problem free gun if the alternative is a clone that requires hundreds of dollars in replacement parts, test fire ammo, and range fees before it’s ‘just as good’
so would you go with a Zenith or AP5?

Got a Zenith it wasn't problem free, the 5K ran flawless haven't shot the Mac 5 yet hoping to so tomorrow, locking pieces are $35.00 bucks. Don't pay range fees so that never is a factor on buying a gun. Both guns were more than I expected them to be after taking them apart. Spending 1k on a gun I don't sweat, I remember buying Arsenal Aks with canted sight blocks and crap rivet jobs for $1800 years ago.

Get one, run it, make sure it works as it should.
It's called a "locking piece". Not a locking shoulder and definitely not a locking device.
Should be either 100 or 110 from the factory in both the 5 and the 5P/K.
Start spending money on parts before you know the gun works perfectly at your own peril. Especially the two pieces you mentioned, the MAD bolt head, which have proven to make perfectly working guns jam-o-matics.
The 80 degree LP is for a very specific group of combined parts and if you don't have all of them, you don't need the 80. Most likely it'll turn your gun into a extractor spring eating jam monster.

If you decide to buy the gun, right out of the box change a bunch of parts and add a can, and the gun doesn't work, don't come here screaming about how the gun is junk and clones suck and you should have never wasted your money on the junk MAC or AP5, or whatever you buy. As I said, get one, run it, run it some more, make sure it works as it should. Once you see that happen, then you can start screwing it up with parts changes.

Your money, good luck.

My MAC-5 locking piece is not labeled so I assume its a 100 but I've not shot anything from mine but 147gr sub-sonic and suppressed with a TiRant 45M and its dangerously quiet and functions flawlessly. I wouldn't change a thing.

To each his own but a SP5 is certainly $2k more at the very least than a MAC-5, if you get it at the standard price of $999 like I did. I wouldn't even consider an HK. There's no magic or voodoo in the MP5 design. Having had experience with HK, POF and now MAC-5, I fail to notice any difference at all. Get a MAC-5 and then spend your savings on upgrades to it, like double stamping it, get a suppressor, a nice HK A3 Stock, HK magazines, and other geedunk and then get some ammo.

I recently got a MAC5 and it runs well with 115 & 124 I suppressed. On hollow points the action would lock back and get stuck in occasion. I had to either hit the side of the receiver or take it apart. Suppressing with my HUXWRX 36 Ti can it ran pretty good, but on a few occasions it wouldn’t pick up the next round. It did that unsuppressed a few times in the beginning. not sure if it’s a mag issue, not picking up the next round? And the other issue not sure what to think about that. I may try a different locking piece, but not sure what comes standard from the factory. May have to call SDS to find out for sure. Ant thoughts would be appreciated.

Between my shooting buddy and I we have one of each of the MAC5 full-size and K models. Just got them last month.

As of now they only have about 200 rounds per firearm through them. Zero issues with ball ammo and some HP reloads. Fit and welds seem ok and finish is a bit glossy. Trigger is typical, a little less mushy than my AP5. Mag fit is a bit tight but seems to be working in.

I did a very deep cleaning and lube before hitting my range. So far I have had no problems mounting braces or other accessories.

For the price and all the extras you get with a MAC, I think they are a very good deal.

I really doubt you will be disappointed with any MAC5 variant. All mine have a 25 in the SN so I guess they are current production and don't seem to have any issues the first ones have, just my guess. They all had a 4.5 bolt gap.

I'm new here and don't want to run afoul of any rules by posting a hotlink or sounding like a schill. We picked all four from RTG. Price, tax and shipping worked out the best for us with them.
