Magpul UBR installation problem

Location: Europe
Status: order pending
Details: MR223A1 + various parts installation
Outcome: Fail …

Short and to the point. As described above, I have ordered MR223A1 and commissioned the gunshop, which proceeded the order, with installation of various parts, Magpul UBR included. It turned out, that not only have they managed to order plain vanilla BC code (year 2012) MR223 instead of A1 ...

... but what is more, they were unable to successfully install the UBR stock on it. Apparently the stock precludes the clearance of charging handle, be it original HK or BCM VLTOR Gunfighter 4 – Medium, which was my CH of choice ...

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I have been waiting almost half a year for this gun and at the end of the day it’s not even what I wanted. But still, wrong order aside, I assumed that they, of all people, should know how to properly install a common aftermarket stock on a fairly common rifle. I mean, for heaven's sake, it’s not a rocket science ...

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

BTW I didn't thought that HK will still produce old MR 223 in year 2012.

i think you must work the charging handle with dremel or rasp, after degrease, and then put the burnisher.

p.s. post other photos with ubr, i never see mr with that stock

Well, if we were talking about AK stock installation, I would be perfectly OK with dremel use. As a matter of fact I did this couple of times and this is something I can do any day, in my own basement, with no regret. However, we are talking about HK rifle and Magpul stock here, some of the most expensive and sophisticated constructions on the market, handed to professional gunsmith for installation. Sadly, they came with dremel solution too. Frankly, I was under the impression they can do more than that for that kind of money I pay. Anyway, thank you for your opinion!

Sorry, can't do that. Weapon is still in their shop, they contacted me regarding the situation and send me above pasted photos. Still, I'm glad they did this, but I want some reasonable solution, not dremel on 3500 EUR worth rifle with accessories. I have no idea what went wrong. The UBR includes the necessary receiver extension tube and all mounting hardware.

From the picture it appears they did not put this stock on correctly. It should be smooth and even around the edges. It appears there is a slight bulge where the stock should be even with the upper. I have know others to have issues with this stock from improper installation.

I would like to thank everyone for help. Unfortunately I cannot personally use your suggestions to address the above mentioned issues, as the rifle is still in the gunshop. I forwarded your opinions though, but to little or no effect. When confronted with this simple line of reasoning: if it doesn't work, it's either out-of-spec rifle, out-of-spec or counterfeit stock, or it isn't properly assembled - they just stated that they tried to install the stock, because I told them it should work. They did all right and they don't feel resposible, quote: "if you or the internet is different view or some items will NOT fit as you think". So basically it’s my fault now. After the internet remark, I suspect they are reading this forum lol.

One question: Did you pay for the rifle?

If not, just walk away. Do not look back, walk away. It is not rifle you ordered and apparently shop is not capable to do simple task. They are unable to fulfill order, they accepted, you have no obligation to buy it (at least not in any country with reasonable consumer protection regulations).

If yes, then they can not prohibit you from checking their work with independent expert (assuming you are not from Nigeria - look above). In worst case you need to file compliant with them, regarding goods not meeting your order and ask for refund.

Word of comment: You ordered goods and service from professional shop. By accepting your order, this professional shop confirmed that fulfilling your order is feasible and they can install accessories you ordered on rifle you ordered. It is their responsibility, as a business. They know what works, you or "the internet" may not know. But by accepting your order they confirmed that they know it will work. When I buy some s....t and then I find in my basement, that this s....t does not fit my rifle - my problem. When I drop my rife at gunsmith and then he calls me that he is unable to do what I asked him, I pick up rifle and he says how sorry he is, that he wasted my time and gives me discount on next job if I choose to came again. And I do not pay for time and material he wasted unsuccessfully trying to fulfil my order.

When will you get the gun in your hands? Is the shop in your local area and can you go see for yourself?

If you can go to the shop I'd read up on how to tell if it is a counterfit UBR and go check it out for yourself. I just took the UBR off my MR223 and I could not replicate the issue shown in the photos.

However if you ordered an A1 and did not get an A1 maybe considering holding them to that or walking away if it won't put you out any $$$. If you want the gun and are sure it's legit, maybe take it with the factory stock and buy the UBR yourself.

Sounds crummy. I'm no gunsmith and I managed to get the UBR from one gun to another.

I do not know any gunsmiths in Gdańsk that know a s....t about AR15 at all and HK specifically (take in mind, that there is around 300 gun shops at all in whole country and 99.9% of their business is classic hunting rifles and shotguns). But it is well possible that he ordered his rifle in Germany and have German shop doing work.

If he is from Poland, I can try to help (do installation and mods for him with my gunsmith), but he must came back and make a choice what he want to do and make situation more clear.
