Mark 23 magazines, some observation

I was messing around with some brand new magazines, both 10 and 12 rounders. Here are some observation:

  • 10 round magazines fit better. Without rattle or play, and more difficult to insert with at full capacity.
  • 12 round magazines have different markings:
  • "Made in Germany"
  • "Made in Germany". Law Enforcement Only. Sterling VA address
  • HK logo on the side. No other marking.
  • When loaded to full or near full capacity, rounds inside 12 round magazines can loosen up and rattle. This only happens when the magazine is inserted into the gun. Or when you push and hold on the exposed round
  • If you try to load the 12 round magazine in a stacking (alternating) pattern, you can only load 11 rounds. There is simply no room for the 12th round. This is probably the most perplexing to me.

Anyone have thoughts or explanations?

I have found some additional differences between 12rd mags evolution. New "Made in Germany" production has small differences between each other:

1.) older MiG ones have the same round numbers (on the back) and .45 stamping (on the side) + the same metal body contour and profilation from molding as an old genuine maritime magazines (which are also stamped "HK" on the side).

2.) newer MiG mags have different font/style of all numbers and letters + different metal body profilation from molding (near top left and top rear side + mag latch groove). They definitely changed molding form and stamping font of all letters.

*** All "Made in Germany" 12rd mags I have seen have " X " mark on the plastic cartridge feeder, visible from top of the mag. None any of my maritime mags have this mark.

Here are some photos, from left to the right: Maritime / older MiG / newer MiG (MiG stands for "Made in Germany" stamping).
