The same molds that produced receivers for DEF also made them for TommyBuilt, and now for S5 Tactical. Todd Bailey (owner of GSG9.US) went through more than half a dozen company names when he was still legally allowed to manufacture firearms. Now, it seems he’s on track to cycle through just as many “partners” using his receiver molds. Makes you wonder, why does Todd keep burning through so many partners? And how long will it be before S5 Tactical realizes just like the others before them, that Todd is not who you want to be in business with?

 

Thanks for the info, maybe spared me a headache... I've been trying to figure out what to do with all my G36 parts ive been accruing. who's receiver to use mostly. Guess im just gonna wait for the fabled HK factory G36 thats rumored to be on the horizon

Yeah, maybe they can make them bigger and gheyer?… welp, maybe not. I’d wait for another falling out just to get less gaudy markings with the next ‘manufacturer’.

 

Man, going to have to start a collection of these to go with my Cav arms collection. How many mfg can get their name on the same product.

I guess depends on the felony. Violent and/or drug felon, no guns for you unless pardoned or conviction overturned or plead down to a misdemeanor. Blue collar felon? Depends on the felony, I guess. White collar felon? A lot of times it seems that you'll get almost all your rights back, including often firearms ownership, once you get out of club fed or the state penn.

But given the crap he's pulled to the HK crowd, it seem that Mr. Bailey has no business with the firearms industry just by the quality of person he is, let alone any crime he may've committed.

 

Recently saw that the GSG9.us instagram page follows some OF girl. I guess that tells you a lot about the guy...

I'm pretty sure that asillasitgets and others will be in agreement with that coming up, and from what I know based on those more in the know than I am about this issue, I've got every reason to believe that they're not wrong.

 

That was fast, was wondering when he would find someone to produce his receiver molds. I'm building a def9 from defgunz and I must say that I'm pretty impressed with the quality. I'm sitting on a G36c parts kit that I'm dying to build to go along with my SL8. I'll definitely be a buyer when they release receivers.

That was fast! And man... these markings/logos lately... ugh. It makes me appreciate my TG36 receivers. At least Tom kept them simple with smaller font.

 

The original T36 logo was my favorite.

 

A certain amount of irony, the gunbroker listing has S5 Arms in Mesa, AZ.

That should probably be another clue in the story. Maybe Todd and Wendy still have ties to Phoenix...

Personally I'm not at all surprised. I think it's a net positive that the/a G36 clone receiver is back on the market. If you have a parts kit without a home, this is really the best option since Tom is out of the SL8 mod game.

The markings are definitely pretty bad. How hard is it to just be subtle and have the markings look close to OEM HK?

I'm about to pull the trigger and buy one of the S5 receivers i just hope they are legit and im not wasting my time with an hk parts G36C kit.

 

These ugly receiver markings are the only thing that have stopped me from picking up one of the US receivers. It's a shame

We think our markings are much cleaner than previous versions. We are also the ones that manufactured the receivers for Defgunz and now have the opportunity to sell these directly. If you want to know something just ask. Although I’ll never bash anyone, not my style. The logos are large but not particularly deep. Much better in person 🤷🏼‍♂️. My 2 cents.

Welcome aboard 🫡. Forums/online can be a harsh crowd, don't take it too personal, but do take feedback in mind from a business perspective. I for one am waiting on the sidelines a bit longer, but always exciting to see new offerings to the market not currently offered by HK. Kudos there!

P.s. Nothing wrong with releasing Version 2.0

 

IMO, the last thing you want is your physical logo aesthetic barring a sale. Rather, you would want the physical logo to be a reason to buy your product as its proof of quality.

No one would ever complain about a 2.0 version logo being too small…

 

True. But probably more important is the fact it’s a clone receiver. If it’s exactly like HK they can shut it down for flying too close to the sun. Aesthetics are important but a lack thereof has us all walking around with useless parts kits.

 

Just do what tommybuilt did with smaller font or let customer make their own markings

Forum wide I believe we just love to hate things. Especially new products, or in this case revised products. What were they thinking? Why the hell would they do that? Its pretty lame really. I remember how cool it was when Tommybuilt started making these, and I don't remember so much hate, I think back then people were just happy to have an off the shelf G36 clone. Not anymore by the look of it. Can't get custom engraving? Inconceivable...

 

It makes sense to me to bitch about it. You want clone parts to make a clone, not a self defense or duty gun thats just functional. Noone wants an ump for practical reasons, we want it to look as close to an HK and use as many genuine parts as we can.

So any chance to maybe have SL8 to XM8 Bolt on kits or any XM8-esque parts in general? Liking the way those rifles look.

 

Not in the near future but the XM8’s are so cool and there’s definitely a market for them.

 

Would love to see this come to fruition! Just assembled my SG36 last night! I still need to torque down my barrel to spec but it is beautiful. Wish my GSG parts kit came with one Mag at least...

Now I gotta 3D print my own clear mags because I'm not spending 120 bucks on a clear mag.

 

Here's mine all done, passes all the function tests. Bolt locks back on empty AR Mags, the Tommy Built AR Style Lower works trigger reset is good with a short reset and postive click. The HK 15.4" Bbl mated up great and I tourqed it down to specs. All I have left to do is live fire it to make sure everything is good to go.

I purchased mine from them, DEF quit making them and said they weren't going to make anymore. They said they we're concentrating on other projects, so SB5 TACTICAL was all I could find. I contacted them directly and purchased mine so I wouldn't have to pay sales tax through Gunbroker.

 

Please let me know how your's runs i just don't want to dump all that money into something that will have issues.
