I picked up the new version of the MP5 rifle (faux SD) last week and finally got it out to the range today. I know most of the HK fans think these Umarex made guns are sacrilege but I have to say they are a ton of fun. I shot mostly Federal Bulk 22 and the gun performed flawlessly. Not one issue in 200 rounds. The only fault I found with the gun is the A3 type stock is a pain when wearing earmuffs. I personally prefer the A2 and will probably put one on sooner than later. At $479 MSRP I would give this gun 2 thumbs up. I really hope the 22 doesn't go the way of the SP5 and street price on these stay MSRP or less. That's going to depend on how many HK imports. Times have changed since they were available a few years ago and never generated much interest. The new version should be a winner.

I picked up a old ATI MP5-22 pistol at a gunshow pre-pandemic for $250 and then got the airsoft folding stock adapter and a pistol brace for it. It is awesome, now just need to rethread the barrel for a can. The fake A2 birdcage flash hider is really long and goes inside the handguard.

I have one of the original SD guns (BB date code). Although I haven’t actually handled the 2021 release, from the photos I’ve seen of the new ones, it looks identical to mine. They still omit the sling hook on the left side of the magwell, just having screw holes for attaching one. Rear sight still adjusted by simply rotating up or down, so no tool used like a real MP5 sight. All I’ve seen is minor differences in the markings. The new one has “CAL .22 LR” in white on the side of the upper above the ejection port, which isn’t on the old ones. Also the serial number plate on the lower is in black on the new one, while it’s in silver on the old one. New one says HK Columbus, GA, and so on.

The pistol version obviously has a new barrel and endcap as the original non-SD gun was a rifle with a 16” barrel and the same A3 stock as the SD.

They should be in LGSs soon. My employee purchase mags showed up yesterday. Employees typically get theirs first because they ship directly from HK but don't orders filled if there limited stock for retail consumers. They should hit the distributors this week so keep your eyes peeled. Retail is $35 so I would expect them to be a little less than that. BTW they no longer sport the Walther logo.
