Rail Cover Solutions, What Covers and Setup Did You Do?

After pretty much giving up on finding HK brand rail covers for my MR556 started to look into other options. As I was working out my own solutions I thought to myself, what is everyone else doing to cover their rails on their MR556's and HK416's. Now I know that this was touched base on over a year ago, but the MR has since come out and I hope to see how everyone is covering up their unused real estate. I'm hoping everyone posts up some pics of what they did as I'd love to see many different variations of what routes we decided to go and how they look on the MR556/HK416's longer rail. So lets see what everyone has.

I guess I can go first... I was always bothered by the exposed rails that the full sized Tango Down rails left as they were meant for carbine length rails so I thought I'd pair it up with a shorter rail cover and cut them down. After some dremel work to accommodate rail nut, I found a way to get those Tango Down's to get all the way across. I think it looks great and it somewhat reminds me of the HK covers. I'm not quite done yet, I still need to round the end off to match a bit but overall I'm satisfied.

I do not have photo but you can see my rail cover solution up-close on this video (from 4:29 - link jumps to this moment). Basically it is Tangodown SCAR panels on front bottom and front sides (extending as little over rail to prevent accidental gas block touch with very forward grip) with added flavour of Magpul XTM panels on rest of rails (one panel is cut up to clear handguard bolt). I also use ladder cover on top - I must yet to decide if I prefer ladder on XTM on top - I also have some more SCAR panels coming.

I like the Knight's rail covers. I am using ladder style covers on my AR that I'll have to get pics up of soon. It's not HK but it does a 416 grip on it which is the epitome of badass BTW.

I use surefire low-profile (ladder-style) covers. They provide an excellent and comfortable no-slip grip, but I haven't yet used them while shooting in the rain, so I don't know how they'll be when wet...

I use the ladder style from Magpul.

Are Surefire, Magpul, Falcon ladder covers same?

Where can I find SF ones? No info on their webpage, Polish distributor also does not have them.

I've seen some low profile rail covers (the slim kind that just fill the notches, and barely cover the sides) that were colored, to include red. You can't get much more HK than red highlights on a black gun. The only thing that would make it more HK would be the actual logo.

It's a gun not a barbie doll! You're not supposed to paint it red, pink, or camo to match your tactical underpants either! ;)

They're called ladder rail covers (because they look like ladders). I like them, personally, and run them on my 556. It's easy to cut them to length to fill space between accessories.

Magpul XTM covers for mine.

Wish somebody made covers the same profile as the ladder covers (same material too) that covered the entire rail with no exposed parts. Very low profile, thin, but that still protects all of the rail. I don't like how most rail panels have the sides that extend outward from the rail as far as they do.

I use mix of Tango Down SCAR covers and ladder covers on mine - SCAR on bottom rail, ladders on side and top rails. Sometime I mix XTM panels as well. XTM and SCAR panels are of same profile but I like SCAR panel texture more, while XTM are easier to configure.

I switched to ladder covers and removed the stubby grip. I'm digging this new feel and look.
