I wouldn't tape a treasure like a magazine. If you are going to mark it, clean well with alcohol use painters tape and krylon what color you want shape you want it and remove the tape for clean lines.

When I read "Red Tape on MP5 Magazines" I immediately thought of governmental bureaucractic stonewalling.

And yet, ASP produces their training guns in red, and most blank firing adapters for the M16 are red, even HK denotes some of their blank firing adapters with a red circle.

As I recall Die Hard 2 may have copied the idea from the 1985 film “The Park is Mine” starring Tommy Lee Jones. His disenfranchised Vietnam Vet character takes over Central Park to gain attention to the abandonment of veterans and uses yellow taped AK mags for blanks to scare the populace and authorities out of the park. Later, when armed mercenaries hired by the mayor go into take him out, Jones’s character switched to red taped mags containing live ammo.

A pretty good flick with an interesting premise…

I bought some used ones at a local gun show that had the bottom 3 inches spray painted red. I see why now (LOL) and for $40 each it didn't matter. They cleaned up and functioned fine.
Sort of like this one? I picked up a couple painted like that off GunBroker a few years back. I think the seller had them listed as US military surplus but I am not sure about that.

Training bombs loaded into bombers have a blue ring at the front tip. View attachment 339938
I got the idea of blue tape to denote subs from S&B using blue to mark their subsonic boxes:

Geco does the same:

So maybe it's a Euro thing.

Whatever. The blue tape stays!! :smash:

And I've got to work up a couple of mags with orange/yellow tape to form the German flag for my best of the best ammo.

Weird how addictive it is to keep buying MP5 mags! I even feel compelled to buy mags to fill all of my German mag pouches and every possible slot in my PCC bag! o_O So far I've been sticking with HK only for 30s, but I've got my factory MKE 30 and a few KCI 20s ready to take to the range tomorrow. Prices keep sliding down on MP5 mags and 9mm ammo, so more spending is ahead.....

My faves for function alone are probably these West German canvas pouches, VERY compact and VERY tough. Once you have these, you realize what delicate toys most of the Chinese mag pouches you can buy on Amazon, etc, really are (although just spiffy for serious Airsoft.........I'm sure...):
