looking around at the various suppressors and want to utilize the existing 3 lug mount on the SP5 specifically.

i have several suppressors currently but all use the 1/2 x 28 TPI piston.

i ran across the Rugged Obsidian 9 that has the 3 lug mount option available. has anybody went this route yet?

also looked at the Surefire Ryder 9 with the 3 lug mount as well.

if not, what are you using that you like?

I recently bought the SF Ryder 9 MP5, but it’s in jail atm. I bought it because the mounting system was designed around the mp5 platform. They seem to be hard to find though.

You have a lot of options to choose from no matter which can you end up going with. The rugged platform is the same as Sico so you can use either of the tri lug mounts on both platforms. However the rugged tri lug mount doesn’t sit as secure as the Sico tri lug mount. There is a little bit of wiggle from my experience. The Sico mount definitely does not have any wiggle if at all.

I agree, if buying a new can dedicated to a subgun, those are great. I just brought up the adapter w/pistol can because it can be a good option if you 1) already have a pistol can that is compatible with a 3-lug adapter, or 2) want a flexible "one can to rule them all" option instead of buying multiple cans.

FWIW, the volume (both displacement volume and noise volume) has never been an issue with mine. Lots of quiet mag dumps through it over the years with no issues whatsoever.

Yes I run a three lug only way to go in my opinion. You can remove your can from one to next in seconds and zero is impacted at all I run a Gem Tech 9 and 150 grain bullets and no ears required. I really like the three lug...
I think three lug is the only way go in my opinion. You can remove the can and move it to a different gun with no impact issues at all. I run a GemTech 9 and with 150 grain no ears required but recommended. I wish I could run a three lug on more guns it's a great locking method.

I would vote Wolfman, you will not be disappointed.

I took my nephew out with a friend of his from school (right before they both graduated from the Naval Academy and his friend is training to be a SEAL). We all fired around a hundred or so rounds through the SP5-Wolfman config. and after we were done, my nephew turn to me and said "that was the coolest thing that I have ever done."

thanks for all the suggestions. i got notification this morning that the Surefire Ryder MP5 came back in stock so i went with that one. it will likely be dedicated to my SP5 due to the 3 lug but i will probably pick up a few 3 lug adapters for other firearms just in case i like it over my existing 9mm cans.

The B&T RQD FS and Compact are similar to the Surefire Ryder-9 MP5, both use a 3-lug and ratchet system to secure it. B&T also just released their RBS SQD suppressor, (reduced backpressure system) (super quick detach) where it pops on and off the 3 lug using cams to lock in place.
Other Good Choices to consider:
Omega 9k - Great compact and very quiet can. You can buy a 3-lug adapter.
Dead Air Wolfman - you'll get a FS and compact with one suppressor, the FS is stupid quiet and the compact is really quiet too
YHM R9 - Great compact and versatile can that can shoot multiple calipers. Can swap in a 3-lug adapter
