So, I have been giving some thought to getting an AK47 Pattern rifle. I used to have a PTR91 and liked it very much. Only downside was the weight. So the PTR32 using AK mags and the 7.62x39 seems like a solid option. Just wondering what your thoughts were about the PTR32. Any experiences would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeray.

I like it. 2021 birth year. Have 20 rounds through it.

There are posts about the magazines it accepts. Since I didn’t have a stockpile of AK mags I’m fine sticking to Magpul MOE ones. (Fyi: Gen 3’s don’t work)

Initial findings:
  • Came with full auto bolt carrier.
  • No issue with Wolf. Didn’t deform the steel like it formed a Norma brass to the flutes.
  • Unlocking the charging handle was stiff due to the strong spring with the bolt locking lever causing the the separation of bolt carrier and bolt head to be, well stiff. This has improved with use.
  • First two rounds the gun didn’t cycle, possibly due to the factor above, but worked after I brushed the flute area. So, you can decide what fixed it. First round was Norma brass next one was Wolf.

Haven’t shot it full auto or for “accuracy” yet.

I like mine quite a bit. Accuracy is not at all bad for x39. This is the first roller locking PTR / HK gun I've had and I was a little surprised at how long it's taken to break in. For the first, maybe 1000 rounds it all but refused to shoot brass case, although it's always eaten up steel case with no complaints. That has since improved and it's less of a picky eater.

I have all three of the PTR x39 models, the PTR32 PDW 8" and PTR 32K 12" guns that I SBRed and the classic PTR32 16" that I turned into a cheap knockoff PTR Hk12E sear host that I run with the promag 73rd drums.

I run all of them with my HK sears and they are all a huge barrel of cheap fun.

Very nice rifles. Do you run the k with a suppressor? Looks like an AAC mount.

I do run the K with a suppressor on occasion. The mount is a Sico ASR and I primarily use a Sico Chimera on it.

The challenge is that its pretty gassy and inexpensive Russian steel case ammo isn't know for the cleanest burning powder in the world. Semi auto its tolerable but full auto it isn't very pleasant.

I could probably mess with the locking piece to see about delaying the action a bit more but have just never really gotten around to it.

I purchased a 12" 32K back in 2015 and love it. I often take clients to the range. We always run it full auto. I've got about 3,000 rounds and don't think she has ever failed. The bolt gap is much lower than I think it should be. I spoke with Rocky, great guy, at PTR. He said to contact him if it drops to .004 with standard rollers.

I dont own one. Sadly. I almost got one but opted for a second PTR91. Having said that, I will opine here - the only difference between the 91 GI and 32 fullsize is two inches of barrel length, offset by more steel welded inside the G3 mag well. So...don't assume it will be a ton lighter than a G3/91GI.

I wouldn't suggest purchasing one if you are looking for an M4 or AK weight profile rifle in the 6 to 7lbs range. The PTR series is pretty chunky in comparison coming in at 9+lbs for the full size unit and losing maybe ~ 0.5lbs for the K and ~1.5lbs for the shorty PDW. Not that ~9lbs is super "heavy" but its also not exactly light either.

However the PTRs weight is one of the attributes that makes them such fantastic range toys in that the extra weight in a x39 caliber helps to makes the recoil extremely soft compared to many other roller delayed rifle caliber guns.
