Umarex Walther MP5 Faux Silencer Disassembly?

I've done a tremendous amount of work on the Umarex MP5 guns, making SBRs, converting an SD to an A5 (I've written up a how-to for Adam @ HK Parts which I'll post here soon) but the one thing I always wanted to do was dismantle the faux silencer I have for my SD (as well as the one for the Umarex Uzi which is similar).

Has anyone done it? And if so, how did you do it? I'm nervous about damaging it beyond repair so I've steered clear of prying it any more than I have already tried, and gotten nowhere. Ideally I'd like to see about making it into my own Form 1 can shell or use it on other firearms by threading the receiver end instead of just a hollow tube.

Thanks in advance.

From how well these are put together, I think you are correct. But I thought they only were hard on mfgs. that distributed parts that were used in real suppressors, not random parts like this? Who knows.
Thanks for trying TooSixy but those links are for the handguards, I'm talking about dismantling the actual faux suppressors themselves.

I brought up the ATF thing because I remember a year or so after the GSG-5 came out the ATF put the kabosh on their faux suppressor. ATI (the importer) had to send everyone a different version of the faux can because it was deemed that it had potential to be converted into a real suppressor. Like I said, according the ATF...

Not trying to take over your thread but is there anyone that makes another barrel for these, I have seen them in vids and they look very cheap with the plastic cover over the barrel when the shroud is removed. I was thinking of getting one for plinking for my son but the barrel just looks like junk with the covering and the way it can be flexed.

Because of the design, no there are no aftermarket barrels and there likely won't be because they'd be restricted to the same pencil barrel design unless they radically changed the gun. You would be surprised at how accurate they are, and in deed how sturdy they are if used properly. And if you turn it into an SBR, it gets 3x better accuracy & stability in my experience. Bottom line: If you leave the faux suppressor on you will have zero flex/play with these. If you SBR and do a good job at it either by somehow getting the real euro parts or having a good gunsmith, you'll have it even better.

zpat,

Thanks for the info. I had a GSG from when they first came out that I traded off. Looking to pick up the SD but having trouble getting past the barrel. I just cannot understand how HK would let something made to that standard out with their name on it. I have heard it is accurate but that is it for reviews on the barrel. Have heard the GSG has a better barrel.

I own both and i am generally a big gsg fan because i think they put out a great product at a good price; however the umarex one in the case of the mp5 and uzi is very good and i consider them all equals in terms of build and design quality. Cust service with umarex can be dicey and if you have are going to sbr you have to deal with them but if you know the right rep it is a breeze. Because of the licensing deal thee umarex is a closer copy now if that matters to you.
