Velocity of MP5 with standard barrel?

Looking to see what the approximate velocity would be for a standard 8.85” barrel and Federal HST 124 grain +P rounds. The MV is listed at 1200 FPS, but I would expect it to be higher with the MP5’s longer barrel. Any ideas on what it would approximately be? Thanks!

1345 fps

When I was trying to tweak out a subsonic load for 147 grain rounds for my MP5 clone, I did a lot of chronographing rounds out of a Ruger P89 to see what a regular barrel would do, then tested them in the CA89. I would typically get 150-200 fps higher speed from the longer barrel.

Now keep in mind that this is based on 10 year memory retention so I could be a bit off. But that is the best that I can recall. And the number is based off of the 1200 fps being accurate.

Any idea what you get in a 4.5" barrel? Since he got me thinking about it, I'd like someone else's input on the difference.

Ok, found my old data. Yeah, I just needed some incentive...

Well I loaded more and went to the range today.

Press: Hornady Lock-N-Load AP with standard powder measure

Chronograph: Beta Master

All shots fired through Ruger P89 (4.5" barrel) and Coharie CA89/MP5 (9" barrel)

So it looks like you get a solid 100 fps extra from the longer barrel. The Fiocchi ammo is notably hotter than the S&B, while the S&B is marginally hotter than Remington UMC. The S&B certainly performs better in the MP5 clones though.

I have more research to do. Obviously I'll have to cut my 147 grn. loads down just a bit to make sure they stay subsonic since the longer barrel of the MP5 gets them right on the line.
I don't see any 124 grain so that's in the middle somewhere. But Hopefully this data will be somewhat useful.

ETA: Found my ammo can of 147 grain subsonic loads. Looks like I went with 4.4 grain of Power Pistol. That cycles the weapon fine with or without a suppressor. Haven't tried it in the HK94 SBR yet though. Still need to get a three lug on that one.

Very interesting Retro. I've always bought the S&B because it is advertised as the hottest 'budget' 9mm out there...it's reliable and my 89 / 94 clone guns love it in FA. Fiocchi advertises itself as almost 100fps slower than the S&B yet you have it hauling ass at over 1400 fps out of an '89. Wow. Guess I'll scoop up a couple cases and see how it does. Thanks man!

Another data point is that I've had 100% success with PPU 158gr factory ammo as far as feeding and reliability. No issues with HK mags, MKE mags, and POF mags.

They're also definitely subsonic out of a full-size MP5 and by far the quietest factory ammo I've fired that actually cycles reliably in every firearm I have, unlike something ultra-niche like Freedom's HUSH line.
