Are you comparing a VP9 with an empty magazine inserted to a VP9 without a magazine? If you have an empty magazine in your VP9 it will be harder to release the slide because you have the tension of the magazine spring pushing on the slide release.

 

My VP9 is too easy to release, barely touch the slide release and it goes forward. The catch barely has any contact with the slide and the catch itself is angled backward instead of forward. I think it's a flawed design and another reason the VP9 sucks.

 

The VP9, like most HK pistols, will release automatically in a brisk slide-lock reload with a full mag. Most of us consider it a feature. None of mine have any issues with a too-tight slide release lever.

How many rounds do you have through yours?

 

Not sure to be honest but its at least 2000+ maybe more. I shot 200+ last week. Between practice and the competition.

I tried mag in and out. I have to take my left thumb and actually press on my right thumb to get it to release. I was just so impressed with how the vp9 comp felt and released.

I have to rack the slide with my left hand to get it to release. That is very smooth but id rather be able to release it without pulling my left hand of the pistol.

What causes that tension on the release lever?

 

Totally random and unlikely... Is your grip so high that it applies pressure to the ambi release on the other side and you are pushing against yourself? Otherwise, I got nothing that hasn't been already covered above.

 

Have you tried replacing the slide release with a new one?
