For sure. I may be mistaken, but I believe the CR may also have a heavier profile barrel.

 

Mag releases are different, CR has a larger pad style release

 

I do not believe there is a CR223. I believe the MR/CR is only a US thing. Therefore they are MR556/CR556. And difference is as stated above. But it has same barrel as MR. the CR has larger mag release button, CR markings, OSS flash hider and now both come with MRS Handguard. But I think you can still find some MRA1s with the older quad rail.

 

The MR223 is the european name for the civilian HK416, which is called MR556 in the US.
The CR223 is not an HK weapon, its from C.G. Haenel, and is a civilian version of the caracal 816.

 

The above post is true as far as I know. The MR223 is the European version of the North American MR556. The CR223 is a HK416/CAR 816 inspired rifle made by Haenel under license from Caracal International, which is Haenel's owner.

 

From pictures the barrels seem interchangeable.

Anyone know how much smithing, if any, is required to fit MR A3 barrel to Haenel / CAR?
