I think I know the answer, but I'd really like to do this install and it was in fact, a feature of the last Bundeswehr issued G3 rifles.

Here are some more pics.

Just wanted the opinion of some other collectors......

If done right you should be fine imho.
I think it would only be an issue if the rifle was unfired and super rare - for example a 1966 HK41.... then I'd say don't do it.

But if its a garden variety HK91, it'll be a nice add on.

Enjoy!

Port buffers are $50, do the same thing, protects the brass for reloading (if you don't reload, you should still keep the brass, it's money) and it is removable. The german version is $75 I think. Then you can still be "factory correct" and all German.

Unless you are just wanting a latest gen G3 clone, if so, then I say hell yeah, do it. Paddle mag, SEF C&P lower, this deflector, maybe a carry handle and factory bipod.

That would look pretty sharp.

steel deflector

I would probably not install the deflector on a semi 91. I am building a g3sg1 and will install one along with the proper remark and refinish of the receiver. I did a g3 image search and found a plethora of g3's with the deflector installed. If you look at the pic on the world of hk link the sg1 has a deflector installed.

It looks gross, it actually sticks out and is a speed bump waiting to get hit. Doesn't do anything for me and just doesn't look right.

Oh, and I have no problem reloading dented shells, either. The dents pretty much smooth right out and in any case, don't affect anything other than your sense of aesthetics.

If were talking value and not looks or function i think the rubber port buffer will make the rifle easier to sell , it gives the buyer the option to use it or take it off. The modularity of the rifle will be a better value than one that is not.

Function -- what if you weld this thing on and it still dents the cases ?

As far as looks , it kinda looks like a hot chick with big ears .

You'll get varied responses I'm sure. But, the value is not affected at all if you DON'T install it. If you do on the Hk91's, you can't un-install it without scratching the hell out of it. My 91's have them, but they were installed before I got the guns. I wish they weren't on though. If I could do it without tearing up the finish, I'd take them off.

If you're looking to someday possibly re-sell the rifle, it'll depend on what the next owner would want. Some don't like the brass deflector-so you can count those guys out of your buying pool.

We make the shell deflectors also everywhere.
-Looks better
-Cases do not fly so far
-Well when shooting from a car

One must out-eat the receiver only from 8mm:

If one uses the put onable rubber shell deflector, slips after short time and makes scrapes to the housing. Thus badly.
Rather weld an original.
