Would you? I don't think I'm feeling the AOR1 spray paint job. The battle worn look like the image Mark Owen commented on is something more likely. I scoured old surefire brochures to find out what model surefire was on that gun and then finding a 2007 m600b surefire 6v incandescent to match was even harder. Next up was finding an early AOR1 Vikings Tactic Sling. But that's half the fun of trying to clone a rifle, figuring out those details and then finding the pieces.

Btw, that image of that gun isn’t “battleworn”, it’s after they scrubbed the paint off the receiver for turn-in, and then they re-attached the RAHG and other stuff that still had paint on it for the pic.

Wow, nice job! It came out good but I still can't do it. No pineapple magnifier?
I’m hunting for the correct older EOTech and magnifier and SureFire so that if I choose to do a Neptune’s Spear build I can, but in the meantime I’m running it as a slightly more modern DEVGRU rig as used by some buddies of mine.

Here's an image of a US Military Hk416 loadout. I plan on picking up one of the M952V surefire lights with M93 mount as seen in the photo below. In the beginning of the video you can pause and slow it down to see how each soldier customized their loadout with some similarities. Some had Aimpoint Micros, Comps, Eotechs, some VFG's or Angle Grips, some HK slim stocks or Magpul.

I believe that's a French special operations unit member in that section of the linked video. A complete 416A5 11" gun is not something I've heard of US SOF running, regardless of unit. Video clip looks to be in Africa, and all the Green Beret photos out of Africa I've seen include either Block II's or URGIs.

I could be wrong, I'm no expert.

Correct on all counts. Confirmed with a former AFRICOM commander.

Honestly Tacswap might be worth a look, I've seen pineapple magnifiers go up on there occasionally at somewhat okay prices for the most part. Tons of older EOTECHs too, but naturally I'd recommended caution and only buying from sellers on there with a decent trading history.

Next decision is do you plan on doing a Tanodized, Cerakote or Black build. Also if you want ambidextrous controls. The a5 lower has ambi control cuts and a slanted magwell, you can add the ambi control cuts to an a3/mr556 lower (specialized milling service provided by some companies). Another small detail some people care about is if it has a FA bolt carrier (BCG without MR markings) and FA upper (has a FA slot cut in the upper)
Here's my tanodized build done by BlackOps after I gathered up the parts needed.

I’m looking to do the same exact build you have. Were you pretty happy with Wes’ work? I’ll be sending in a Nefarious Arms complete A5 upper on an MR556 lower to have the ambi bolt catch work done, as well as refinishing/anodizing. Yours looks great!

Damn, this is nice. Thanks for sharing. This would be CAG 416 clone? Is there a resource that you could reference that could show us the different types 416s the different branches/groups used?

If it’s CAG clone it shouldn’t be an A5 upper. If you want an MR556 lower with A5 upper, do the USMC M27 with A5 upper and 11” barrel that MARSOC runs.
For a CAG clone parts list: CAG 416 Parts List

Seriously this is a wealth of information thank you! Definitely gonna have to look into the STS stuff as brownells BRN-4 lowers are more or less unobtainable now, and Black Ops seems to have had a hard time keeping stuff in stock. Fortunately a local shop I go to has been really good with their laser engraving service so here's to hoping they can do a good job. Thanks!
If you don’t go with an A1 lower for some reason, I’d be happy to post a parts list to build out either of the ambi lowers.

I’m also looking at doing a 416D build (I won’t use the term “clone” to not ruffle any feathers), but I’ll be using an A3 STS lower.

If you still want a parts list for the A1, I can put one up as well. It’s mostly the same. I recently ordered my parts from Blue Ridge Supplies and Haus and had great experiences.

Also welcome man! Northern Idaho or South?
