I have the generation one competition weight compensator, from H&K, for the P30. Have had it many years and have shot many rounds through it. But today it decided to break off my front picatinny rail and go flying into the grass. I clean my weapons religiously after use and always make sure there is no deposits between the muzzle and the compensator, but today it looks like I had a muzzle strike. My 40 cal has the Gen 2 on it, which not only locks to the picatinny rail but also has two set screws to fix it to the side.
So I guess if I'm going to use this compensator again, I'm going to have to drill through the sides of it and tap it for my own set screws, after giving myself a little bit extra clearance, to prevent another possible slide strike.
Not intending on buying a new frame, I just super glued the piece back on. Still functioned without it but I definitely don't want dust and debris getting in through the front.
Now I have to decide if I want to put this compensator back on. I really like using it, but it is just a range gun. I cannot count on the front picatinny to hold it in place alone.
Anyone else ever have this issue?
