So I broke my 9mm P30 frame today.

I have the generation one competition weight compensator, from H&K, for the P30. Have had it many years and have shot many rounds through it. But today it decided to break off my front picatinny rail and go flying into the grass. I clean my weapons religiously after use and always make sure there is no deposits between the muzzle and the compensator, but today it looks like I had a muzzle strike. My 40 cal has the Gen 2 on it, which not only locks to the picatinny rail but also has two set screws to fix it to the side.
So I guess if I'm going to use this compensator again, I'm going to have to drill through the sides of it and tap it for my own set screws, after giving myself a little bit extra clearance, to prevent another possible slide strike.
Not intending on buying a new frame, I just super glued the piece back on. Still functioned without it but I definitely don't want dust and debris getting in through the front.
Now I have to decide if I want to put this compensator back on. I really like using it, but it is just a range gun. I cannot count on the front picatinny to hold it in place alone.
Anyone else ever have this issue?

It rides on one picatinny location, and always locks in tight, with no movement. I'm taking everything apart right now and was looking for some reason why. Can't see my slide moving forward of specs. No internal wear or abrasions. Shot two more mags, without the compensator.
You can definitely see an impact mark below the muzzle location. The other small marks around the upper edge came from dropping it on concrete after I picked it out of the grass.

I don’t have that comp so can’t be sure but isn’t it true that both sides also clamp into the grooves on the slide so it’s not just riding on the picatinny? Edit. Meant to say grooves on the frame.

HK Parts has no affiliation with Heckler & Koch and they sell quite a lot of aftermarket junk under their own brand name.

is that a factory HK comp made by them for that firearm? i wasn't aware they made one for the P30.
No, they haven't made one for any of their pistols since the USP Match was a thing.

First thing I would do is gather ALL my receipts and information about the purchase of that weight, and call H&K Customer Service for resolution or next step in the process. This WILL be interesting since this an after market piece that broke the P30 frame....following

LOL😅👍
All's better now.
If HK built cars, you could probably drive it on half an engine.
Sucks, because I really did like the less flip I got from the compensator.
But I don't see myself putting in a threaded barrel, with a barrel mounted compensator, like Wick's P30L

don't take anything personal here. i agree HK is hard to beat.

that being said i have a couple pistols that start with a G that i have tricked out with all sorts of fancy crap they don't need. to me they are toys, i dont carry them at all. i only carry a factory stock firearm with "maybe" a red dot site but thats it.

if something happens to one of the G pistols, to me its a throw away kinda like legos are. i'll just buy another one.

i actually do respect my HK firearms enough not to dink with them though. its all good in the end.

sometimes lessons are learned as in this case.

That's why they make Chevy's and Fords.

I've gone through my many list of firearms, in the years that I've been shooting.
I've learned that I love a hammer fire pistol. I've owed a pistol that had a G in the name, but it wasn't for me. The point of aim was seeming like a learning process.
I grew up with a M1917 45 Smith and Wesson. Could out shot my friends regardless of how much the spent on something.
Been through a few 1911's. Actually have a 1991 full size in my safe. Still haven't shot it
I've downsized to what I feel is quality over quantity.
Favorite is my Mark 23, USP Expert 45 and 9mm. Factory stock on those. My cary is a rebuild USPC 45. My 2 P30's 9 and 40, are spiffed up, but they're just fun range shooters. Today I rescued a USPC 40, that I'll go through.
And I'm about to take all my spare Mark 23 parts, and build another one 😱

Don't buy for any kind of status. They just make what I enjoy to drive, even if I have to add some fat tires and duel exhaust.

I’ll hold my nose and buy HK factory items from HKParts if I just can’t find it anywhere else, but every HKParts-branded item I’ve bought has been absolute crap. Just garbage. Took me a few orders to learn the lesson, but I got it now.

And please let me say.
This is the only problem I've ever had with any, of my HK firearms.
I clean and inspect every time I use. When I buy a used one I completely disassemble every piece, and replace anything in question.
If I need to grab something from that safe, I have 100% confidence in knowing it'll do it's job, as long as I do mine.

....
Yep. Lessons learned, and now you know. I had one of those HKparts match weights for my HK45, and I never felt a big reduction in the muzzle flip. And worse, it was quite front-heavy making the gun unwieldy which I hated. After 500 rounds downrange with it, I took it off and don't think I'll ever use it again. Thankfully, there was no visible damage on my gun.

What is the weight of that monstrosity? I see the HK Parts website conveniently omits that fact.

The owner's manual for the P30 advises a maximum weight for the Picatinny rail of 5.64 ounces.

It also has this tidbit on page 32:

"CAUTION: Improperly designed or installed accessories may result in damage to the rail system and/or the pistol. Such damage is not covered under warranty. Be certain to use only HK approved accessories and follow installation and precautions carefully"

It was fun while it lasted.
If it wasn't hold on, by just the one lug it probably wouldn't have been an issue. Unless it decided to break loose all at once, and snatch off everything forward of the trigger guard.
Thankfully the damage was just a little piece of polymer, at the very tip of the frame. And luckily it's still fully serviceable. The picture doesn't really show the finished repair. I buffed it down and now it's just a flat black spot now.
Won't be putting those on, and have first hand advice, for others not to do the same.

I’ve posted this many times over the years, both here and ARF and other places. These cheesy comp weight things can and WILL damage your frame. The trend is to use the USP style match weights without an extended barrel and the muzzle blast/downward force will eventually take its toll. I’ve seen this play out in both competition and training classes.
Ditch the comps and weights unless you’re running a true match length barrel with your gun…

I bought one of these meme "compensators" for my P30L, just for light range use. I didn't expect much when I bought it, but geeeez...

When I installed it, it was visibly out of spec with the gun. HKP told me to return it at my expense. When they got it back, they said it was fine. Then they sent me a scratched one and told me to cope. As final insult to injury, they rejected my negative review from publishing to the product page. This saga lasted for over a month because their support kept ghosting me.

I never shot the so called comp, and wouldn't you know it, I never placed another order with HKP again.

HK parts has a lot of hard to find oem parts and not all of HK parts “parts” are bad. Infact their aluminum compact finger grip is a vast improvement over the HK rubber one , the aluminum striker sleeve is another but as we see here just because you can doesn’t always mean you should.

Huge kudos to you @TJR68 for keeping such a positive attitude in this situation. I've seen countless people come here to complain when this kind of thing happens and point the blame at HK. Sorry this happened to you, but good on you for taking it in stride.
