Well, let´s forget Schwaben rifles. And what do you think about the MKE T41, the copy of the HKG3 made in Turkey?
I`m thinking to puchase one, but I don´t know about their accuracy and reliability.
There was a rumor last year that we would be getting them in the states, but it sounds like it's not going to happen.

I was ready to get in line for one.

To put it that way: I just bought one recently. I would never buy SAR.

Built quality and finish is good in my example/specimen.

but I don´t know about their accuracy and reliability.
Reliability is high, I have a few T41 around me for many years now, purchased over several years, and no owner ever complained about reliability. But they all left it as it is and didn't tinker around with it.

Regarding accuracy I can't tell you anything that will help you. My focus in on ergonomics and ergonomic development, I have other rifles that are used for accuracy, so I don't care for sub MOA with a G3 clone and am totally fine with MOM performance, which the T41 achieves even with surplus ammo.

Thank you for the info German. I´m thinking to purchase one. And what do you think about the Z3 from Zenith brand. I´ve heard that it is a MKE T41 for the american market. Do you know the quality of this guns from Zenith? Thanks.

No, I don't, at least not firsthand.

Do a search of the forum, there have been quite a few threads and some feedback regarding build and finish quality of Zenith guns. As far as I have seen these seem to be mostly positive, given the price point Zenith sells these.

There are also some other importers that allegedly import MKE or at least "Turkish" guns everybody credits MKE with and I had the impression that feedback regarding the quality feedback seemed to vary. Maybe that's because some of the guns or gun parts come from suppliers or subcontractors of MKE, which also seem to market complete guns.

So there is some smoke screen regarding the actual origins of some of the stuff brought into the US.

But the supply line into Europe via MKE is pretty transparent and so far the quality has been good.

More a DMR:

Vid is good, comments great.

1). Longer buffer for service life, not just recoil (echoes Hakan Spuhr & Swede practice). Norwegian comments.

2). Silent bolt closure cuts more for checking if round chambered. (?)

3). Extended overlap between service life of preceding Garand & slow (late) G3 intro.

4). A few iron sight differences.

5). Note relation of scope eyepiece & stock extension.

Been buying OTM?

Open Tip Match (OTM) ammunition is a specialized type of bullet designed primarily for precision and long-range shooting. While it might not be the best option for self-defense or penetration through barriers, it excels in accuracy and is a popular choice for competitive shooting. Whether OTM is ‘better’ than FMJ or JHP is contingent on your specific needs, but it certainly stands as an excellent choice for those in need of a high level of precision.

Which barrel should one take a chance on being most accurate with 147gr. through 168gr., possibly heavier projectiles? A&D?, the recent Portugese imports? or the RCM offerings?

Is there anyone in particular who is known to put together railed receiver G3 type rifles well enough to function as a DMR given quality parts?

if A&D you are referring to is Albert & Duval the only source would have been hk as far as I have seen. They supplied hk with their cannon barrel steel which either they or hk hammer forged and to quote hk they performed “other“ non disclosed ”special steps“ in production. I wonder if they cyro treated all the parts?

look at A&D’s website and you will see a scientific grade metal producer. Nato cannons. Real technology.

As far as info available no other maker used that kind of steel. I think the whole Austrian gun is A&D sourced metals. Even trigger parts.

”you cannot wear out a hk91/g-3” is the result in my experience

if I were to build a DMR hk 91 type rifle again I would start out with a used 91 and replace the barrel. And source as good of a trigger as possible.

the original JLD built PTR’s used Wilson barrels and were noted for high accuracy. Not perfect quality control was posted.

recently I purchased two in the white hk 91 type barrels that seem to be late model hk products. They have a step in the end of the barrels machining which normally would alter the barrels harmonics.

‘There have been several 911’s sold on gun broker recently with PSGI trigger groups. The barrel shroud turns off without damage as the weld was faked from hk. I in 11’ twist and 7.62x51 chambering results in a sub MOA hk factory steel rifle that easily fits a DMR role with handloads or FGMM ammo.

no cheap way to do this. I acquired spare hk barrels long ago and two in the white new ones recently just to be able to build up another one or two. ]

the Mexican army when we dirtbiked there in 2000 had 1960’s g-3’s that had had their entire finish worn off them. Shiny steel. Every inch. The officer said they shot as well as they did new. No service ever. WTS had thousands of the Mexican trigger groups sent to him for service. A handful of springs. Zero defects or wear. He was amazed. But not suprised.

‘here is my 911 with a set trigger and reloads 30+ years ago on a slight wind afternoon. I put the rifle away. Done
