Yeah, please keep it civil. No need to be (too) rude.
You are welcome to disagree, though.

Although I don't agree with @Master Guns regarding his stance towards SIG, I do agree with him that this is the MR556A4 and MR762A4 thread, so it would be nice if the Gentlemen could return to the original topic. 👍
German. I have a question for you or anyone else. My only concern with this weapon is the barrel corrosion resistance. I live in Mn where it’s both cold and wet and gets humid. Is the bore going to need to be kept wet all the time to stop rust? I am more concerned about this than anything else. I keep my weapons clean and lubed down. Example. I deer hunt in Mn and Wisconsin. When I am out in a cold wet blind all day for 3 days with this weapon going back into a warm house. Will it need a wet patch everyday? I hope you get the gist of what I’m asking. I like CL barrels for this reason. How will this compare in that way. Thank you

Just treat it the same as any other tool you would take care of. I would not worry about it rusting to pieces. I throw an oil patch down the bore of my chrome lined barrel as well as any other firearms before long term storage.

You can see HK’s full explanation on this forum somewhere, but in short… Mil-Spec barrels are 0.8-1.3% chrome content and thus are chrome lined. The HK416 is also chrome lined as it’s supposed to help with durability in regards to full auto fire. Now, HK’s A4 barrels contains 3% chrome already. They’re shipped from Germany as blanks and machined in the US. Considering the almost 3x chrome content I have a lot of faith in the resistance of their barrels to the elements. It’s nice that this benefits not just the inside but also the exterior of the barrels. HK won’t tell us every metal used as that’s proprietary and trade secret, but rest assured they’re some of the best.

It’s at the end of this thread.

Why not offer a proper chrome lined version as well?

For a semi-automatic firearm, using HK’s steels, US chrome lining provides no significant benefit and can actually hurt performance (more on this later).

However, one might argue we are offering a chrome infused barrel.

The common barometer for a barrel in the US is “Mil-Spec” which is governed by MIL-B-11595E, commonly referred to as 4150 CMV. This chemistry is required to have .8 % to 1.15% chrome. Due to this low chrome-content, a chrome lining is effectively required to provide the barrel corrosion and abrasion resistance.

As comparison, the alloys HK uses are typically 3% or above. This high chrome content (and other alloyed materials) makes the HK steel naturally more resistant to corrosion, abrasion, and wear.

We are offering the barrel with the best combination of accuracy and durability we can. Each MR A4 leaves HK having been tested for accuracy. All rifles must meet a 30mm maximum dispersion at 100 meters (effectively 1 MOA or less). We consider a barrel shot-out when the base dispersion doubles, which should far exceed 10,000 rounds. We’ve taken guns well past this.

We are so confident in this, we guarantee it. To our knowledge, no other semi-auto rifle manufacturer provides a lifetime guarantee against barrel wear.

Just picked it up today, I have some 416 a5 sites coming in, ordered slimline stock and battle grip from HK, I am going to use Trigicon MRO, probably mount an AAC muzzle device and will efile SBR this week.

I see a lot of Marines running M4 in infantry units as well as M27. I retired in 2013. We were already fielding the M27. I prefer the M4 myself. Many do and did. M27 is a great weapon in its own right. It’s been implemented as a stop gap until we get wherever comes next. At first I didn’t like the replacement of the SAW. After time though, the M27 is better in a lot of situations.
Every marine I’ve ever interacted with who vocally pushed for the prolonging of the M4’s lifespan was either weak or thought that 1.5” was going to make them super high speed low drag. 95% of Marines running the M27 saw an efficacy increase. It there a place for an M4. Maybe. Would it be way better if the marine corps just gave squad/team leaders a recon package style 13”-14.5” upper, way better. Also very very very few infantrymen are running M4s anymore. I’m not still in but I adjunct instruct and I haven’t seen an M4 in a victor unit for a long while (outside of officer issued)

I agree getting rid of the saw was a mistake but I also think the squad is better full of M27s than full of M4s with some saws.

Will anyone be replacing this handguard with alternate handguard ? I'm more of a fan of the rahg and geissele handguards.
I actually was quite fond of the new A4 handguard. It's slimmer laterally, but it's the right height for me to be able to grab the rail comfortable without needing an AFG. I got to put about a K through an A4 and really ended up liking the ergos of the new handguard. Pretty much all I did was put an index marker for my thumb and rolled from there.
